Remote Control (490-0875) Installing the Pin Switches Faxback Doc. # 8938

The pin switches mount along the inside edge of the trunk and hood, so
that opening and closing the hood or trunk trips the switch and sends a
signal to the control module. Follow these steps to mount the pin
switches.

1. Find suitable mounting locations on the framing around the hood and
trunk so that closing the hood or trunk presses down the pin switch.

2. Using a pin switch as a guide, mark the position for the holes.

3. Drill 9/32-inch holes at the chosen locations.

4. Coat the drilled holes with an anti-corrosion compound or heavy
    grease to prevent rust.

5. Mount the pin switches with the provided nuts and washers.

6. Adjust each pin switch so that it is pressed down at least 1/4-inch
when you close the hood or trunk.

Wire the Door Switches

This system uses the existing door switches to activate the alarm. First
determine your vehicle's type of door switch connection. If you are not
sure what type of door switch your vehicle has, contact your vehicle
dealer.

* Many vehicles have a single connection at the dome or courtesy light
that connects to each door. If your vehicle has this wiring system and
does not have a delayed dome light, use the provided instructions for
   your type of vehicle.

* If, however, your vehicle has a dome light that turns on before you open
the door or delays turning off after you close the door, we suggest you
have a professional install the system.

ALL DOMESTIC FORD PRODUCTS

Route the violet wire to the door switch wire that leads to the dome or
courtesy light. With the supplied squeeze connector, connect the violet
wire to the door switch wire. This connects the terminal to chassis ground
when the door is closed and + 12 volts when the door is opened.

* General Motors, Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Datsun/Nissan, Flat, Fiesta, Isuzu,
Mazda, Renault, Subaru, Toyota, Volkswagen, and Volvo

Route the gray wire to the door switch wire that leads to the dome light.
Connect the gray wire to the door switch wire using the supplied squeeze
connector. This connects to + 12 volts when the door is closed, and to
chassis ground when the door is opened.

OTHERS

Use a voltmeter to test lamp to determine if the separate door switch wires
or the single wire from the door switch to the dome light is connected to
+ 12 volts or to chassis ground when the door is opened. If they are
connected to + 12 volts when the door is opened, use the provided violet
wire. If they are connected to + 12 volts when the door is closed, use the
gray wire.

Note: Mercedes switches vary with each model. Some might use both wires.
       Check with your auto dealer.

Caution: For a single door switch wire connection in the dome light, use
the gray or violet wire, not both. Using both wires could damage
          the alarm system.

WIRE THE PIN SWITCHES

Follow these instructions to connect the pin switches to the control
module.

* 1. Route one of the wiring harness' brown wires to the hood pin switch
and the other brown wire to the trunk pin switch.

* 2. Plug the brown wire's bullet end into each pin switch.

WIRE THE IGNITION LEAD

* Route and connect the wiring harness' blue wire to the ignition (IGN)
terminal in the fuse block. This connection provides 12 volts of power
to the ignition, and turns off power when you turn off the ignition.
