HANDLING VIDEO CASSETTES

To help preserve your video cassettes and protect them from damage, you
need to handle them with care.

After you eject a cassette, store it to help protect it from dust.

Place video cassettes in their protective boxes and store them in a cool,
dry, dust-free environment. Store the cassettes on end, not on their
sides. This prevents improper settling of the cassette's spools.

Tape can become wound too tightly around the cassette's spools after
numerous playings. This can make the cassette improperly load and
automatically eject when you load it. On most video cassettes, there is a
brake-release plunger on the bottom-center of the cassette. Use the tip
of a pen or pencil to press the plunger. This loosens the tape.

PLAYING A TAPE

Follow these steps to play a video cassette tape.

1. Press POWER to turn on the VCP.

2. Turn on the TV and set its tuner to the same channel as the VCP's
    CHANNEL switch.

NOTE: If you used the connections under "Connecting a TV Monitor," set
the TV monitor to the video mode.

3. Position a VHS video cassette with the main label facing up and the
spine label facing you. Load the cassette by gently pushing in on the
center of the cassette's spine until the VCP pulls in the cassette.
The indicator lights and the tape automatically plays.

CAUTION: Never insert anything except a VHS video cassette into the
          cassette compartment.

4. Press STOP to stop playing the tape.

5. Press EJECT to eject the cassette.

6. Press POWER to turn off the VCP.

Auto Power-On

Your VCP's auto power-on feature lets you turn on the VCP by inserting a
video cassette without having to manually turn on the power.

Auto Playback

If you load a cassette with its erase-protection tab removed, the tape
automatically plays.

WATCHING BROADCAST TV

To watch broadcast TV using the connections shown under "Connecting a
Standard TV," press POWER to turn off the VCP or press STOP to stop tape
playback. Then tune to the desired station on the TV. The antenna or
cable signals pass through the VCP unaffected, as if the antenna or cable
wire were connected directly to the TV.

USING THE REMOTE CONTROL

The remote control has the same buttons as the front panel of the VCP. To
use the remote control, point it at the INFRARED REMOTE sensor on the
VCP's front panel and press the desired button.

COPYING A VIDEO TAPE

You can use your VCP to play back a video cassette tape while a VCR record
the tape. The VCR must be connected to the VCP as shown in "Connecting a
VCR."

Follow these steps to copy a video cassette tape.

1. Load a pre-recorded video cassette into the VCP.

2. Load a blank video cassette, or one you want to record over, into the
    VCR.

3. If the VCR has an input select switch, set the switch to the video
    setting.

NOTE: If the VCR does not have an input select switch and you want to
record VHF/UHF/cable channels, you might need to disconnect the VCP
from the VCR's audio/video input jacks.

4. Select the desired recording speed on the VCR.

5. Begin recording on the VCR.

6. Press PLAY (X2) on the VCP to begin tape playback.

7. To watch a tape while you copy it, turn on the TV and set it to the
same channel as the VCR's channel switch (Channel 3 or 4).

If you connected the VCR's audio/video output jacks to the TV's
audio/video output jacks to the TV's audio/video input jacks, set the TV
to the video setting to watch the tape while you copy it. This usually
provides a better picture during copying.
