Slim Charger (230-0246) Operation Faxback Doc. # 7689

Before using your charger, read all instructions and cautionary marking
on the charger, the batteries to be charged, and the product that uses
the batteries.

Caution: To reduce the risk of injury, charge only nickel-cadmium
batteries. Other types of batteries might burst, causing
personal injury or damage to your charger. To reduce the risk
of fire or electric shock, connect directly to an AC power
          outlet.

GENERAL CHARGING HINTS AND SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

For the best results, keep these hints in mind:

Completely discharge the batteries before you charge them. Repeatedly
charging batteries that are not fully discharged can shorten their
  useful life.

Do not charge batteries when the room temperature is above 80 degrees
Fahrenheit or below 40 degrees Fahrenheit. This could permanently
reduce the batteries ability to accept a charge.

Cautions: Do not expose the charger to rain or excessive moisture.

Never use the charger as a DC power source for any electrical
           equipment.

Do not operate the charger if it has received a sharp blow or
been dropped or damaged in any way. Have it repaired by
           qualified service personnel.

Never mix different-sized batteries in the same charging
           chamber.

Warning: Use of any attachments not intended for use with this battery
charger can result in a risk of fire, electric shock, or
          personal injury.

Continually overcharging batteries can shorten their life and
          might cause them to explode.

Do not disassemble the charger. Have it serviced or repaired
by qualified service personnel only. Incorrect assembly can
result in a risk of electric shock of fire.

To reduce the risk of electric shock, unplug the charger from
the outlet before attempting any maintenance or cleaning.

Do not use an extension cord. Its use could result in fire
          or electric shock.

CHARGING BATTERIES

You can charge batteries in the following combinations:

  Two or four AA batteries.

  Two or four AAA batteries.

Two AA and two AAA batteries.

1. Open the battery chamber cover.

2. Place batteries in either or both battery chambers, as indicated by
    each chamber's polarity symbols (+ and -).

Note: You cannot charge only one battery at a time. Both slots in either
side must be filled or the charger will not turn on.

3. Close the battery chamber cover.

4. Pull out the charging plug from the back of the charger or you can
press upward on the tab above the charging plug to make the plug pop
up. Then insert the plug into an AC outlet. The indicator for each
filled battery chamber turns on to show that the batteries are
    charging.

Notes: It is normal for batteries to become warm while charging.

If the indicator for a filled battery chamber does not turn on,
unplug the charger, remove the batteries, and clean their contact
surfaces by wiping them with a soft, dry cloth. Then reinstall
the batteries and plug in the charger. If the problem persists,
either the charger or one of the batteries you are trying to
charge is faulty. Contact your local Radio Shack store for
        assistance.

5. Unplug the charger after about 7 hours, and remove the batteries.
