USING THE CD PLAYER

CAUTIONS: A sudden shock or jolt while a CD is playing might suddenly
change the speed of the CD's rotation or cause the CD player to
skip the track it is playing and, as a result, momentarily mute
or distort the sound. This is not a malfunction.

If you move the CD-3314 from a very cold room to a warmer one,
moisture can condense on the pickup lens, preventing proper
disc pay. If this happens, turn the CD player off then wait 30
minutes before attempting to operate it again.

CD CARE TIPS

Even thought a compact disc is very durable, treat its surface with
care. Always handle a CD by the edges to avoid fingerprints and always
keep it in its protective case or sleeve when it is not in use.

Do not write on either side of the CD, particularly the non-label side.
(signals are read from the non-label side.)

Do not store CDs in high-temperature, high-humidity locations. The CDs
  might warp.

Fingerprints and scratches on the CDs surface can prevent the laser beam
from correctly reading the digital information. To clean the CDs
surface, use a CD Cleaner Kit (such as Cat. No. 42-116).

Keep CDs dry. A drop of moisture can act as a lens and affect the laser
beam's focus. Remove moisture with a soft, dry cloth. Move the cloth
in straight lines, starting from the center and moving out toward the
outer edge. Do not move the cloth in circles. Be sure the CDs are fully
  dry before you use them.

tape by turning the cassette's hub. Avoiding touching the tape.

3. Insert a cassette tape with the side you want to play facing you,
the exposed tape edge down, and the full reel to the left. Then close

RECORDING A CASSETTE TAPE

You can record from the CD player or radio.

CAUTION: You cannot press down RECORD when you load a cassette with the
erase-protection tab removed. Do not force down RECORD or you
might damage the recording mechanism (see "Preventing Accidental
          Erasure").

NOTES: The CD-3314's Automatic Level Control (ALC) automatically adjusts
the recording level. VOLUME has no effect on recording.

Be sure the erase-protection tabs are in place on the cassette
tape you are using to record.

We recommend regular length (60-or 90-minute) cassette tapes. We
do not recommend long-play cassette tapes such as C-120s because
they are very thin and can easily tangle in the recording or
        playback mechanism.

Tape quality affects the quality of the recording. For low-noise,
wide-range recordings, we recommend you use normal bias tape.

Most CDs and pre-recorded tapes contain copyrighted material.
Copying or dubbing of copyrighted materials is a violation of
federal copyright laws and could result in fines and/or
        imprisonment.

TAPE CARE TIPS

Restoring Tape Tension and Sound Quality

After you play a cassette tape several times, the tape might become
tightly wound on the reels. This can cause playback sound quality to
deteriorate.

To restore the sound quality, fast-forward the tape from the beginning to
the end of one side, then completely rewind it. Then loosen the tape
reels by gently tapping each side of the cassette's outer shell on a flat
surface.

NOTE: Be careful not to damage the cassette when tapping it. Do not
touch the exposed tape or allow any sharp objects near the
       cassette.

PREVENTING ACCIDENTAL ERASURE

Cassette tape have two erase-protection tabs - one for each side. To
protect a recording from being accidentally recorded over or erased, use a
screwdriver to remove one or both of the cassette tape's erase-protection
tabs.

WARNING: Removing the erase-protection tabs does not prevent a bulk
          eraser from erasing a cassette.

NOTE: If you want to record on a tape side after you have removed the
erase-protection tab, place a piece of strong plastic tape over the
side's erase-protection hole. Be sure you cover only the hole
originally covered by the erase-protection tab.

ERASING A CASSETTE TAPE

If you no longer want a recording, you can record over it or erase it.

To erase a previously recorded section of a tape, simply record over it.
To erase the entire cassette tape, let the tape record silence to the end.

You can quickly erase both sides of a cassette tape using a bulk eraser
(such as Cat. No. 44-232, not supplied) available at your local Radio
Shack store.
