Pocket Tone Dialer (430-0139) Operation Faxback Doc. # 6613

To use the Tone Dialer, hold the unit to the mouthpiece of a telephone
handset so that the rubber ring of the speaker sits over the mouthpiece.
Then move the POWER switch to the ON position. Then touch dial the
desired numbers. The tones will be transmitted through the microphone of
the handset and on to the equipment you wish to reach.

Note that your Pocket Dialer cannot be used to access the primary
telephone number of a special service on a rotary service line. If you
have a telephone with a rotary dial, use the telephone to initially reach
the number of the special service. Then at the point where Touch Tone
signals are required to activate the service or a special device, switch
to the Pocket Dialer.

OPERATION TIPS

The Touch-Tone signals generated by the Pocket Dialer are accurate and
strong enough for most equipment you will encounter. However, if you use
the Dialer on older handsets that contain microphones which have poor
sensitivity, the tones generated may not be reproduced accurately. As a
result the computer equipment may not be activated, although the Dialer
appears to operate properly.

For best results and to ensure greatest reliability, proceed as follows:

  1. Hold the handset vertically.

  2. Always center the rubber ring of the Pocket Dialer over the
      mouthpiece of the telephone handset.

  3. To maximize receptivity of an older carbon-type microphone tap the
handset on a hard surface, several times. This will loosen the
carbon granules within the microphone and make it perform better.
Holding the handset in a slightly inclining position will also
achieve a better result in tone transmission through the microphone.
