LCD Auto Range Multimeter (220-0163) Controls Faxback Doc. # 6289

SPECIAL CONTROLS

Warning: Do not operate the multimeter until you correctly install the
batteries and close the battery compartment cover.

Auto Range Control

In the auto range mode, the multimeter automatically selects the range
that gives you the best reading. The multimeter automatically enters the
auto range mode when you turn on power or when you select a new function.
AUTO appears on the display and the range is automatically set to the
following.

Function Display Range

DCV or ACV .000 V 4 V
mA for DCA or ACA 0.00 mA 40 mA
Resistance 0.L Mohms 40 Mohms
Continuity OL ohms 400 ohms

NOTES:

You cannot use the 400mV (DC or AC) range in the auto range mode. To use
the 400mV range, select control.

For current measurements above 400 mA, plug the red test lead into the
10A MAX jack. For measurements of 400 mA or less, plug the test lead
into the + V ohm A jack. When you change the jack, the range
automatically shifts to the correct one.

Function Switch

You can select the desired multimeter operation by using the function
switch.

Manual Range Control

The auto range mode is a convenient feature, but it might be faster to
manually set the range when you measure values that you know to be within
a certain range.

To select manual range control, repeatedly press RANGE SELECT until the
display shows the desired range. The range steps upward as you press
RANGE SELECT and RS appears on the display.

Caution: While using the manual range control, if OL appears on the
display and you hear an intermittent tone, immediately set
RANGE SELECT to a higher range.

NOTES:

If you press RANGE SELECT after you reach the highest range, the
multimeter returns to the lowest range.

When you use manual range control, always begin the measurement with the
highest range (especially if you are not sure about the range the device
to be measured is in).

For current measurements above 400 mA, plug the red test lead into the
10A MAX jack.

For current measurements of 400mA or less, plug the test lead into the
+ V ohm A jack.

When you change the jack, the range automatically shifts to the correct
one.

To change from manual to auto range control, press AUTO.

Data Hold

Press DATA HOLD to freeze a measure indication on the display, even if
you remove the test probes from the circuit. DH appears on the display.

To cancel data hold, press DATA HOLD again, or press SELECT or POWER.
Or, slide the function switch to any other position to change the
measurement function.

NOTE: You cannot change the range during data hold.
