VGM-150 (25-4090) Using Microsoft Works Ver. 2.0 Faxback Doc. # 6088 The Full-Page monitor provides limited support for Microsoft Works. This is because only four grayshades are easily distinguishable from each other. Works uses more than four colors to identify the many different character styles and font sizes used in a heavily-formatted document. Works is sup- ported only in text modes and only in the basic screen formatting features. The four-color monochrome palette is used to show normal, bold, italic and underline as gray shades. Follow these steps to set up your system to run Microsoft Works in full-page mode. 1. Install Works for VGA operation per the instruction manual and verify that it is working properly. 2. Make the directory containing the Works files the active directory. 3. Works uses the file SCREEN.VID to control the screen display. The follow- ing steps replace this file, so make a backup copy of this file by typing: copy screen.vid vga.vid <ENTER> 4. Copy SCREEN.VID from the 5 1/4" SUPPLEMENTAL DRIVERS 2 or 3 1/2" DRIVERS disk to the Works directory by typing: copy a:screen.vid <ENTER> 5. Choose the desired gray shades by following the instructions for Works. We recommend Palette 2. 6. Works is now modified to work in full-page mode, and you can run it by typing: fp works <ENTER> works filename <ENTER> 7. After exiting Works, type fp dos ENTER for normal DOS operation.
