300 BPS DCM-5 Modem (260-1177) DCM-5 and Xenix Faxback Doc. # 5842

Your DCM-5 is configured to operate with the XENIX operating system. Set
the AUTO ANSWER slide switch on the back of the DCM-5 to IN before you turn
on the DCM-5. When the AUTO ANSWER switch is set to OUT, the DCM-5 expects
you to tell it what to do and when to do it. At power-on, the DCM-5 is in
off-line mode unless you programmed otherwise. If it was answering a call
in the auto/answer mode, it will revert to the call-waiting state.

At power on, the DCM-5 will be auto/answer mode and carrier will not be
asserted: it is only asserted by the DCM-5 if, and only if, the DCM-5 is in
actual communications over the telephone lines. Even if turned on by you in
the command mode, the carrier will be turned off once the DCM-5 reverts back
to the call-waiting state.

Once the disconnection is complete, the DCM-5 will revert to the auto answer
state (call-waiting state). Auto/originate is not programmable. To force the
auto/originate, pull the DCM-5 away from the call-waiting state by entering
* command: then it will automatically show this change of state. Any mode
of operation usable in the normal mode can be activated using the * command
to disrupt the call-waiting state.

See you XENIX system's documentation for more information on using a modem
with XENIX.
