CDR-1501 (250-1091) Troubleshooting Faxback Doc. # 5282

Your CDR-1501 is designed to give you many hours of trouble-free service.
If problems occur, most of them can be traced to incorrect software
installation.

If you are having trouble with the CDR-1501, check the following items
before you contact your local Radio Shack store:

The CD-ROM does not operate.

* Check the power cable connection.

* Check the ribbon cable connections between the adapter interface and
  the CD-ROM drive.

* Check that the disc's label is facing up.

* Be sure the caddy is pushed in fully.

* Compare the config.sys file address setting and the adapter interface
jumper setting--they must be set to the same address.

* If you are using DMA, make sure the DMA channel specified in the
Tandycdu.sys driver in the Config.sys file is identical to the DMA
jumper setting on the adapter interface.

* If the CD-ROM drive has been moved from a cold environment to a warm
one, condensed moisture might be on the lens. Leave the CD-ROM drive
turned off for about 1 hour before you use it.

"Out of environment space" appears on the screen.
"Bad command or filename" appears on the screen although you correctly
specify the drive/pathname.

* Increase the environment space by adding the following to your
  computer's config.sys file. shell = c:\command.com c:\ /p /E:1024

See your DOS operating system manual for more information about
environment space.

"Incorrect DOS version" appears on the screen.

* This message might appear if you have DOS version 5.0. If this message
appears, use a text editor to add the following line to the config.sys
  file: device=c:\dos\setver.exe

NOTE: If you are using MS-DOS 6.0, use the mscdex.exe file supplied with
it; is the current driver as of the date of this document and does not
require that setver.exe be loaded.

No sound comes from the speaker.

* Check the coaxial cable connections between the adapter interface and
  the CD-ROM drive.

* Check the connections between the adapter interface audio output jacks
  and your audio amplifier/receiver.

No sounds come from the headphones.

* Be sure the headphones plug is firmly connected to the PHONES jack.

* Be sure the volume control is correctly adjusted.

While the CD-ROM drive is turned on, no sound comes from the speaker(s)
or headphones.

* Be sure the disc you install is an audio disc.
