Before calling technical support, first refer to this Faxback Document.

If BitFax was included with your modem, please call the technical staff
of the modem manufacturer.  Even though BitFax is compatible with your
modem it may not be compatible with your system or the fax machine you
are calling.  Check your modem's manual for information about technical
support.

If you purchased BitFax separately, or you are still having trouble with
BitFax and cannot find a solution in this manual, please send a fax to
BIT Software Inc. describing the problem.  In the fax, include the
following information: the version number of BitFax (which is printed
on your program disk), the brand name of your modem, and the system you
are using (e.g., 286-386).

ERROR MESSAGES:

CmdErr

BitFax sent a command that your modem does not understand.  Check that
the Dial Prefix in the Main Configuration Menu contains commands that
your modem supports.

COM Err1

BitFax could not send the fax because of other activity on the serial
port.  Check that he selected COM port is correct and that no other
serial device  is using it.  Also, make sure that another device, such
as a mouse, is using the same IRQ (interrupt request) number.  COM 1
and COM 3 use the same IRQ number, as do COM 2 and COM 4.

COM Port Not Functional

The COM port number you selected is not functional.  Change the COM port
to match the one used by your fax modem.

Create Phone book (Y/N) Not BitFax/SR Phone Book

You have a phone book file (FAXBOOK.DBF) in your BitFax directory, but
it is not the dBASE format.  If you answer Yes to creating a new phone
book, BitFax will overwrite the existing file.  If you want to keep the
exiting file, rename it before letting BitFax create a phone book.

Data Error; [C]ancel/[R]etry?

You received a data error from DOS.  Change disks to correct the
problem, and press R to retry, or C to cancel the action.

Directory Does Not Exist

The path name specified in the "DBF Working directory" does not exist.
Retype the name correctly or create the directory.

Disk Full

The disk that you are attempting to write to (or the current drive) has
insufficient space to perform the requested action.  Free more disk
space or insert a disk that has sufficient space.

Disk is write protected; [C]ancel/[R]etry?

The disk that you are trying to write is write protected.  Remove the
write-protect tab or insert a new disk.

Drive A does not exist; [C]ancel/[R]etry?

You are trying to write to Drive A, but your operating system does not
recognize a Drive A in your system.

Drive A is not ready; [C]ancel/[R]etry?

You have attempted to write to Drive A, but it is not ready.  Make sure
that you have inserted a diskette into Drive A, and that you have closed
the drive door.

Err_Disk

BitFax did not have enough disk space to save the fax file.  Make some
disk space available on your disk.

Err_File

As BitFax was receiving a fax, it could not save the fax file to your
disk.

Error_B

BitFax could not establish a good connection.

Error_D

BitFax received your fax, but over noisy phone lines, which means the
image is probably garbled.  You might want to have the fax resent.

Error - Disk Full

Your fax modem is receiving a fax, but the disk is too full and cannot
save the whole file.

Error - Phase B

BitFax could not make a good connection.

Error - Phase D

BitFax detected line errors while receiving a fax.  Have the fax sent
again.

Fax Font Not Present

The file FAXFONT must be present in the current or working directory.
Use the DOS SET command.

General failure on drive A; [C]ancel/[R]etry?

BitFax could not read your Drive A.  Try another diskette.  If this does
not solve the problem, your disk drive may be damaged.

FTT

BitFax could not make a good connection with the remote fax machine.
This could be caused by line noise.  Try to send the fax again.

Invalid Dialing Command Format

The Dialing Prefix you have used in invalid.  You must use valid Hayes
commands.  Refer to your modem's manual.

Invalid Filename

The specified file contains invalid characters or does not exist.  You
must use a valid DOS file name.

Invalid Telephone Number

The specified phone number contains invalid characters.  The Phone
Number field can only contain number 0-9, comas, parenthesis, the pound
sign (#), the asterisk (*), and hyphens.

Line Busy

The line you called is busy.  If you set BitFax to redial, it will do so
when the redial time elapses.

Line Err

BitFax canceled the fax transmission because of too much line noise.
Try resending.

Modem Not Responding

BitFax is not getting a response from your fax modem.  Make sure you have
configured the COM port correctly and connected the cables firmly.

Modem Err

Your modem is not responding.  You may have configured BitFax to the
wrong COM port, or your modem is not a fax modem.  Also, your modem may
be broken.

No Carrier

BitFax could not make a connection.

NO Carrier - FTT

There was too much noise to make a connection.

NO Carrier - RTN

There was too much noise to make a connection.

No CFR Signal

BitFax could not establish a good connection.  Try lowering your fax
modem's speed in the Advanced configuration Menu.

No CTS

Your modem did not send the CTS (Clear To Send) signal.  Check that
your modem is properly installed and that the cables are secure.

NO Dial Tone

The fax modem does not detect a dial tone.  Check all cable connections,
and the COM port selection.

No DT

BitFax did not detect a dial tone.  Check if your telephone line is
plugged into your modem.  You can also try disabling call progress
monitoring by changing the dialing Prefix to ATX1DT.

NO MCF Signal

BitFax did not successfully send the entire fax.  This error will appear
if the receiving side hangs up or your modem is not working properly.

Not Enough Memory for Supply.EXE

You do not have enough RAM (Random Access Memory) to load the file
SUPPLY.EXE.  BitFax uses this file when changing the configuration.
BitFax will still run without this file, but you will not be able to
access all menus.  Remove any memory resident programs you may have
running.  If you have less than 640K RAM, you may need more memory.

Read Error on Drive A; [C]ancel/[R]etry?

BitFax could not read Drive A.  Check that you have a floppy disk
inserted and you shut the drive's door.

Retrain Negative

The message was sent, but because of noise, it took one or more
retries.  You may want to resend the fax.

RTN

BitFax could make a connection with the remote fax machine, but line
noise prevented a successful transmission of the fax.

Save Fax in file - XXXXXXXX.TIF

A received fax message is being saved in a Tiff Class F format.  The X's
stand for the file name.

Sector not found on drive A; [C]ancel/[R]etry?

BitFax could not read the diskette in Drive A because either the
diskette or the drive is bad.  Try a new disk.

Seek error on drive A; [C]ancel/[R]etry?

BitFax could not read the diskette in Drive A because either the
diskette or the drive is bad.  Try a new disk.

Supply.EXE Not Present

BitFax could not find the file SUPPLY.EXE.  It should be in the the
BitFax directory.  BitFax uses this file when changing the
configuration.  BitFax will still run without this file, but you will
not be able to access all menus.

Unknown media type in Drive A; [C]ancel/[R]etry?

The diskette is not the right type or was formatted incorrectly.  Try
a new disk.

Write error on drive A; [C]ancel/[R]etry?

BitFax could not write to Drive A.  Check that you have a floppy disk
inserted and that you shut the drive's door.
