CONNECTING EXTERNAL DEVICES

Connect external devices to the audio adapter connectors.

NOTE:  The orientation of the audio adapter connectors on the rear panel
       of your computer depends on your computer model.

CONNECTING A JOYSTICK

Connect a joystick to the joystick connector of a MIDI/joystick cable.
If a MIDI/joystick cable is not connected, you can connect a standard
15-pin joystick cable to the MIDI/joystick connector on the adapter.
See your computer dealer to purchase a MIDI/joystick cable.

NOTE:  If an adapter with a game port is already installed in your
       computer, remove the adapter or disable the joystick port on
       the audio adapter.  To disable the adapter's joystick port, park
       the jumper on one pin of Jumper Block J8.

CONNECTING SPEAKERS

You can connect speakers to the Line-Out connector of the audio adapter.
The audio adapter generates 4 watts when connected to 4-ohm speakers and 2
watts when connected to 8-ohm speakers.  Do not set the volume level to
maximum unless your speakers can handle the maximum power output.

HEADPHONE SAFETY

You can connect headphones to the Line-Out connector of the audio adapter.
Before you put on headphones, set the volume to a low level.  After you
put on headphones, slowly adjust the volume to a comfortable listening level.

WARNING:  Listen with the volume at a moderate level.  Extended
          high-volume listening can cause permananent hearing loss.
          Because your ears become less sensitive to sound as you become
          accustomed to a volume level, exercise caution when increasing
          volume after a period of listening.  Volume levels that do not
          cause discomfort might still damage your hearing.

ADJUSTING VOLUME

You can adjust the volume of sound output through the audio adapter by
adjusting the volume control on the audio adapter.  The volume control on
the audio adapter.  The volume control on the adapter is the master
control for all connected devices.  Adjust the adapter volume to a
moderate level before adjusting the volume of any other source (such as a
connected amplifier or an audio application).

CONNECTING A MIDI DEVICE

Use the optional Sound Blaster MIDI or MIDI/joystick cable to connect a
MIDI device to the Joystick/MIDI connector on the audio adapter as shown
in the previous illustration.  See your computer dealer to purchase the
cable.

To connect a MIDI device such as a keyboard:

-Connect the cable labeled MIDI OUT to the MIDI IN connector of the MIDI
 device.

-Connect the cable labeled MIDI IN to the MIDI OUT connector of the MIDI
 device.

When a MIDI cable is connected to the audio adapter, you can use the MIDI
cable's joystick connector to attach a joystick.
