SVGA Windows Accelerator Adapter (250-4055) Features Faxback Doc. # 2174

The Tandy SVGA Windows Accelerator Adapter is a Super VGA display adapter
designed for users of Windows and CAD applications, bit block transfer
(BITBLT) and a hardware cursor combined to increase the performance speed of
Windows and windowing programs by as much as 15 times over standard VGA.
Tasks of opening, closing, scrolling, and resizing windows are performed
instantaneously as the adapter outperforms even some costly VRAM-based
adapters.

MS-DOS, AutoCAD, and other non-Windows applications that use a hardware
cursor will also realize increased performance with the Tandy SVGA Windows
Accelerator Adapter.

This adapter brings the functions and features of the latest VGA standards
to your IBM PC/AT-compatible computer. These features include accelerated,
high-resolution graphics.

The SVGA adapter is packaged with software utilities and drivers that
optimize its VGA capabilities for your software applications.

The features of the adapter include:

* Hardware cursor and bit block transfer (BITBLT) to accelerate performance
  of Windows and windowing programs.
* 1MB of video memory to support 256-color, 1024 x 768 graphics; 16-color,
  1280 x 1024 graphics; and 16-color, 1280 x 960 graphics.
* Compatibility with software written for the Hercules Graphics Card and the
  video standards preceding VGA: Monochrome Display Adapter (MDA),
  Color/Graphics Adapter (CGA), Multi-Color Graphics Adapter (MCGA), and
  Enhanced Graphics Adapter (EGA).
* Compatibility with the following types of computer systems:

  - IBM PS/2 compatibles with AT-compatible bus
  - IBM PC/AT compatibles
  - 16-bit Industry Standard Architecture (ISA) bus
  - EISA computer

* Support for both monochrome and color, fixed- or multiple-frequency VGA
  analog (interlaced or non-interlaced) monitors.
* Support for 8514/A-compatible non-interlaced monitors.
* Support for simultaneous use of two monitors; the adapter can coexist with
  either an MDA adapter or a CGA adapter.
* Support for extended text modes: 80 columns by 50, 43, 34, or 25 lines;
  132 columns by 50, 44, 28, or 25 lines
* Enhanced display drivers for the following MS-DOS-based applications:
  AutoCAD, AutoShade, Cadvance, Generic CADD, Lotus 1-2-3, Lotus Symphony,
  P-CAD, VersaCAD, Word, and WordPerfect.
* Support for VGA pass-through to an 8514/A-compatible adapter.
* Analog Video Connector--Your monitor connects to this 15-pin connector.
  The adapter supports monochrome and color analog fixed-frequency monitors
  as well as VGA-compatible analog multiple-frequency monitors.
* Video Feature Connector--This connector allows fully compatible VGA
  pass-through to an 8514/A adapter. By connecting an 8514/A adapter to this
  connector, you can switch between the VGA and 8514/A standards without
  changing monitors, providing that your monitor supports both standards
* Video Memory--1MB of video memory enables support of Super VGA modes up to
  16-color, 1280 x 1024 graphics and 256-color, 1024 x 768 graphics.
* 80 MHz RAMDAC Chip--Provides 262,144 possible colors. The number of colors
  displayed is determined by the video mode.
* You can use an interlaced or a non-interlaced, fixed- or multiple-
  frequency analog monitor with the adapter. Consult your monitor
  documentation to determine the monitor's vertical and horizontal scan
  rates and whether the monitor is interlaced or non-interlaced. If this
  information is unavailable, contact your computer dealer.
