4825 SX (25-5141/42) Features Faxback Doc. # 1682

The Tandy 4825 SX delivers IBM PC/AT compatibility in a high-performance
environment. It features a 25 MHz Intel i486SX microprocessor and a 32-bit
CPU. You can run popular software packages with the industry-standard
architecture (ISA) expansion options. Many advanced features are standard on
the Tandy 4825 SX. These features and many options are listed below.

NOTE: This manual contains information for both the 4825 SX and 4825 SX hard
drive models.

FEATURES

25 MHz Intel i486SX microprocessor--Provides superior performance with its
32-bit data path and 8KB internal cache.

8KB internal cache--Features an integrated 8 KB cache (CACHE482). This cache
is organized in a 4-way set-associative design that greatly enhances the
performance of many common applications. CACHE482 uses a write-through caching
scheme to ensure data reliability.

Phoenix BIOS and Industry Standard Architecture (ISA)--Ensures compatibility
with software and hardware built to the IBM standard for PC/AT. Three 16-bit
ISA expansion slots operate at a standard 8.33 MHz speed.

MS-DOS,Novell,UNIX,XENIX, and MS OS/2 compatibility--Lets you choose the
operating system that best supports your needs.

101-key enhanced keyboard--Makes typing easy by featuring auto-repeat to
reduce the number of multiple keystrokes.

High-capacity, 3 1/2" diskette drive--Enables you to read and write both
standard-density (720 KB) and high-density (1.44 MB), 3 1/2" diskettes.

Built-in 16-bit IDE (SmartDrive) hard drive interface--Enables you to quickly
add hard disk storage. SmartDrives use an integrated controller to provide
maximum performance and compatibility at a lower cost than other
drive/controller combinations. The IDE interface supports up to two
SmartDrives.

Three Drive Bays--Enable you to install hard drives, diskette drives, tape
cartridge systems, or CD-ROM drives.

3 1/2" 120 MB SmartDrive--Provides 120 MB of additional disk data storage
(hard drive version only).

Built-in Super VGA video port--Provides better performance than a video system
installed through one of the computer expansion slots, yet maintains the high
resolution and colors of Video Electronics Standard Association (VESA)
specification Super Video Graphics Array (VGA). Super VGA features 16-color,
non-interlaced 1024 x 768 and 800 x 600 graphics modes, and 132-column text
modes. By upgrading the video memory from 512 KB to 1 MB (using an optional
upgrade kit), you can display 256-color, non-interlaced 1024 x 768 video. The
Super VGA video system is compatible with VGA (640 x 480), MCGA, EGA, CGA,
MDA, and Hercules standards. Super VGA video requires a VGA analog monitor
(color or monochrome).

4 MB system memory, expandable to 32 MB--Enables you to run a variety of
software. Eight SIMM sockets are located on the main logic board for memory
installation.

Built-in mouse port (PS/2-style)--Leaves a 16-bit expansion slot open for an
additional adapter board.

Built-in serial and parallel ports--Lets you connect a serial mouse, an
external modem, or other serial device. Also lets you connect a parallel
printer or other parallel device, using the bidirectional parallel port.
