SENSATION! (250-1650) Math Coprocessor Faxback Doc. # 1299

Installing a Math Coprocessor or Overdrive Processor Upgrade:

Note: The i487SX 25 Mhz Math Coprocessor and 50 Mhz Overdrive Processor
can be ordered from Third Party Products.

Note: The 486 DX/2, Overdrive Retrofit (ODPR), and the 486SX/2 are
      NOT supported by this computer.

The i487 SX adds math coprocessor circuitry only. The OverDrive processor
adds math coprocessor circuitry and increases the computer's internal
processing speed. Your computer requires a 25 MHz i487 SX processor or a
50 Mhz Overdrive processor. In addition to adding math coprocessor
circuitry, the OverDrive processor also enhances the overall performance of
the computer by increasing the speed at which internal processing occurs.

CAUTION: Always touch a grounded metal object before handling electrical
         components.

If you do not feel comfortable installing a processor, your Radio Shack
Store can arrange the installation for your.

The processor upgrade socket is accessible after you remove the computer
cover and the expansion adapter cover. However, for ease of installation,
you can also remove the drive tray.

1. Open the computer and remove any expansion adapters.

2. Locate Pin 1 of the upgrade processor and Pin 1 of the OverDrive socket
at location U95. Pin 1 of the upgrade processor is indicated by a notch
on one corner. Pin 1 of the OverDrive socket is indicated by a 1 on the
   main logic board.

3. Orient the upgrade processor so that the notched corner (Pin 1) aligns
with the notched corner of the socket.

CAUTION: Confirm that your processor is correctly aligned before
pressing it into the socket. Incorrect installation of the
microprocessor can cause electrical damage to the main logic
board or the microprocessor. A special extraction tool is
            required to remove the processor.

4. Taking care not to bend or touch the metal pins, press the processor
   into the socket.
