|This is going to sound stupid, but it never occurred to me there were
|full blown church canonized saints alive during a time the camera
|existed. For some reason when I think saint I think 4-500 years and
|earlier. When I really think about it, I know it isn’t true because of
|Mother Teresa etc, but it still made me double take. So strange to see
|real pictures and not carved statues etc.

|The new saint about to canonized is pretty interesting to say the

|So.. he performed miracles after his death… 2 random people
|praying at the dead kid somehow cured a pancreatic defect on one
|kid and healed a head injury on another. No wonder the schism
|happened. They got tired of making people saints.

|It is incredible how we don't see miracles anymore isn't it.
|Like it's almost as though the barrier of proof has risen
|somewhat substantially and now suddenly nobody can grow a piece
|of whole cloth, or how there's no pictures of apparitions, or
|how no new saints are seen to not decay after death...

|I like how canonized probably means the saint is now canon in the
|Christian lores or something like that. And I say this as someone
|who read canon lores in a children's book about Joan of Arc

|The word canon was adopted by Catholicism. It’s exactly what you
|think it is.
|u/butt_fun - 2 hours
|
|Everyone knows what you're trying to say, but you're not saying
|it correctly "Canonize" is an original Catholic term, that has
|since been adopted in memes to be used in any lore "Adopt"
|means you take a word that's originally used in one context and
|bringing it to another context. The Roman Catholic church didn't
|adopt the word, they invented it. Other contexts have adopted
|that word from the church

|Saints are basically the baseball/football cards of the Catholic
|Church. Gotta keep coming up with new releases to keep people into

|Makes you wonder how many more photographs of saints dressed as saints

|I'll dress up as Thérèse of Lisieux dressed up as Joan of Arc and have
|a picture taken. Just in case I ever get recognized for the Saint I

|This was part of a theatrical play which Therese wrote and performed
|along with the other nuns in her convent (she wrote two plays about Joan
|of Arc). There are many photos of Therese, including one when she was
|four years old (looking grumpy). Her memoir, "L'Histoire d'Une Ame"
|("Story of a Soul") is a surprisingly funny set of recollections mainly
|about her childhood.

|When photo was taken, Joan D'Arc was not yet canonized as a saint. That

|What does this even mean? She’s dressed as Joan of arc, in armour. How
|does that not fit the definition of cosplay?
