TIL Scarborough Fair, recorded by several musicians, most notably by
Simon & Garfunkel (1968), dates back to the 1600's and of Scottish

|I was in Acapella Choir in HS. We were getting ready for a concert, and
|one of our songs was *Scarborough Fair*. At the end of rehearsal, Dr.
|Schmidt put a record on (it was 1966, so yes, it was vinyl, as was the
|style) and played the just-release Simon and Garfunkel album. We must
|have listened to their track about eleventy thousand times. Ended up
|making a number of minor changes to make our performance more similar.
|The crowd loved it. I still know the words.

  |It’s the little glockenspiel lick for me.

|“Retelling elven lore” is, I think, not really accurate. The song is
|related to a song about an elf but isn’t itself about elves at all.

|So reaping a field with a sickle of leather is similar to cutting down
|the biggest tree in the forest with. . . .a herring!

|I adore the Bellowhead version, very different.
