|Not what I was expecting given the war
|u/JFeth - 10 hours
|
|Other than the odd missile attacks, the war is pretty far from Kyiv.
|Ukraine is roughly the size of Texas and almost all the fighting is
|taking place in a relatively small area of the country.
|u/das_war_ein_Befehl - 4 hours
|
|It’s really not a small area of the country, 20% of Ukraine is
|occupied. The frontline is just fairly far away. The front itself
|is about 800 miles long

|
|Which says a lot about how well the war has been contained by
|Ukraine but of course the biggest fear is what happens when Trump
|brokers a "peace deal." Btw I'm not forgetting the fact Russia has
|been bombarding Kyiv and other civilian centres with drones &
|missiles. If the actual conflict reached Kyiv, you would see the
|city in ruins.

|
|Russian troops were inside Kyiv during one night though. Small unit
|reached up to 200 meters away from building of Ministry of Defense
|of Ukraine and was destroyed. Russian were repelled from Kyiv region
|in April 2022.

|Were these just taken at times people were not present or are the
|streets and public areas just empty due to the war?

|I'd guess early, cold morning of a workday. We've had a few of those
|recently. Otherwise there's usually quite a few people in that park.

|Oh hey I've been there! That park is NICE! Great stroll along the
|hilltop, kyiv is beautiful.
|u/Own-Royal103 - 10 hours
|
|It looks weirdly peaceful. It shouldn’t be weird the war is very far
|away and Russian artillery is lessening. But still looks unusual.

|Can't wait for the war to be over so I can visit this beautiful country

|Can't believe the war had been going for 3 years and counting already.
|Used to wanting to go there for sight seeing, guess now. Even after the
|war ends.... The looks will be different.
|u/awesomedan24 - 3 hours
|
|You hear about the war and assume the country is completely ravaged. I'm
|glad there are people there who have a sense of normalcy

|Not surprised, Russians haven't spent much time in Kyiv at all. Let's
|see how much progress they make after Orange gorilla takes office in
|January 2025.

|Isn't there a war going on ?
|u/Even_Fly_4601 - 3 hours
|
|The war, unfortunately, is still going on. We have air alerts every
|night. The deep sound of anti-aircraft defenses, the shaking of
|windows. Kamikaze drones and missiles attack the city. But people
|continue to fight, build, create new lives and, unfortunately, cry and
|bury their loved ones
|u/dkras1 - 3 hours
|
|Russians were repelled from Kyiv region in April 2022. Only cruise
|missiles and Shahed drones are reaching Kyiv now.
|u/RemoteCelery - 5 hours
