Online Predators

Please delete if not allowed. I’ve been stumped for so long as to what
to do or who to contact. This group was linked in another thread. I have
a friend that is a victim of two predators. One has already been
publicly doxxed for being a pedophile and still continuing to be
horrible. The other I just have a username and I told his irl friend
what he did with proof. He told me that he told his irl friends and that
the guy is MIA now but it’s not enough. I reported him to cybertip but
haven’t received any calls or anything. They both have multiple victims.

Can anyone lead me in the right direction?

|People have the wrong idea about contacting law enforcement. They take
|your tip, but they do not involve you in their investigation. There's
|this constant thing about police doing nothing because they don't tell
|you what they're doing. You can also report it here:

  |It sounds like OP’s friend may not have reported to local law
  |enforcement? Handling of a victim complaint by local police is way
  |different from reporting to a tip line. The tip line doesn’t owe
  |you any more than a “thank you”. As well, giving out status reports
  |could interfere with investigation. It’s not a good idea to doxx, as
  |this might put you or others in danger if the person might be violent
  |or revengeful.

    |The local police don't owe you an explanation either.

|The sub rules don't allow us to help you find or identify someone. You
|just have to rely on the authorities to do their jobs correctly 😒

  |Can authorities help more than places like cybertip? I feel stupid
  |just saying “hey here are all the usernames do something please”. Are
  |there better websites?

    |In this situation, cybertip ARE the authorities.

|In these situations, report to local police as well as cybertip. And
|as a previous poster said, law enforcement typically does NOT reply to
|these reports or keep the person who reported updated on the case.
|Investigations are confidential. It’s a common misconception that
|police “must not be doing anything” because you report a predator and
|never hear back from the police. That’s really not how this works.
|Citizens who report predators don’t get to then collaborate with the
|investigators or something. Everyone who comes across a sexual
|predator should report it to law enforcement. It’s that simple. It’s
|not up to the citizen who comes across the predator to first “collect
|evidence” to present to law enforcement; it’s law enforcement’s job to
|investigate reported crimes. It’s not the citizen’s responsibility to
|get involved in the investigation unless specifically asked. It’s not
|the citizen’s job to decide whether s/he has “enough” information to
|make a report to law enforcement “worth it” - the citizen should simply
|report whatever it is they have! I realize I’ve gone beyond the
|specifics of this particular post. But I see the same kinds of issues
|in this sub again and again.

|> I reported him to cybertip but haven’t received any calls or
|anything.   From the Cybertip website (you may get contacted, but not
|necessarily so): **What happens after I make a report?** Our goal is
|to review your report and get your report to the law enforcement agency
|who can best handle it. Here are the steps we take: 1. Review – Based
|on information provided, we attempt to quickly identify reports that
|involve a child in immediate or impending harm and notify law
|enforcement immediately. We also attempt to identify a possible
|location or other information useful to law enforcement for all
|reports.      2. Contact and Support – A NCMEC staff member may also
|reach out to you, if you’ve given your contact details and permission
|for NCMEC to contact you. We can also connect you with resources for
|victims and families.  3. Refer to Law Enforcement - If a possible
|specific location has been identified, we will make the report
|available to law enforcement in that area.  If a local jurisdiction
|cannot be determined, the report is made available to federal law
|enforcement for their review.    **After I make a report, will I get
|updates if I provide my contact information?** After a CyberTipline is
|made available to law enforcement, we do not always have access to next
|steps or outcomes, so we are unable to provide that information.
|However, if you provide your name and contact information, you may hear
|from a NCMEC analyst or law enforcement if they have questions or need
|additional information related to your report.

|Hi. I’m someone who has first hand experience with what you’re
|describing. Despite what some people on this sub might tell you, the
|sad fact of the matter here is that the police probably won’t do
|anything if the suspect hasn’t harmed anyone in real life, which
|doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be helping them get a paper trail on this
|person. If you notified cybertip, you essentially did all you can by
|now, but I wouldn’t have much hope for any action to be taken.

  |I was trying to be somewhat vague so I don’t break any rules. I guess
  |I’m just trying to see if there are better options for reporting it 🙃
