Update from yesterdays post: My elderly fathers car got side swiped by a
scaffolding van.
I'm collecting the progress made from comments here and further
research. Updates:
- So far no luck with getting a second picture from neighbours doorbell
cams, which would be the best outcome. I've posted across local FB
groups and the Next Door app. - I've suggested he see if the road works
are still going on as /u/nl325 pointed out that most road works have
traffic cams in case something happens while they work. - We think the
orginal photo was zoomed in or cropped as its a weird size. I've
explained this and asked if he can get the original via google drive. He
insists it is the orginal. Tbh, he's a bit downtrodden about it all and
isn't enjoying talking about it. Its the 1st new car he's ever owned and
he didn't have it long. The Mechanic says they will have to cut the
whole rear corner out and rebuild it, so the car is a real mess. -
u/inide and a few others think its a Ford Transit, dual rear wheels,
dropsides so possibly a rubble tipper rather than the longer van usually
used for scaffolding. - u/memcwho searched local scaffold companies on
google earth and found a van which matches the description and has an
identical scaffold setup on the back. - [Reebo Scaffold Maps Link](htt

FQAw%3D%3D). My dad said he'd go have a look today but hasn't replied
whether he did or not. - A few people searched for NX11 E number plates
and found a few matches, but.. - Checking out the website and social
media of the suspect company turns up photos of their other trucks. Not
the Ford we are looking for, but their plates of their vehicles are ALL
RX plates which is very close to what we're seeing in the blurred image.
- https://reeboscaffolding.co.uk/gallery/ - They also have a FB page
with the same photos on it, but FB links aren't allowed here. - RX
plates are registered in Reading, not too near Seaford and quite a
cooincidence that this company has an identical vehicle in thier yard
which almost certainly has an RX plate on it. - Some users have said
that they'll just deny it was them and it'll go nowhere, but if we're
able to get a snap of the rear of the vehicle i believe the red sticker
and scuff marks on the back will align and provide enough evidence to
get the police or insurance company to take it further, or to make them
prove where that van was at that time and date in small claims court.
Disclosure, i've posted this in both r/RBI and /r/CarTalkUK based on
suggestions i received here.

|I recall someone in the original thread saying you'd have no hope of
|corroborating any of this with the project contractor but I don't think
|it's wholly impossible. The construction site might have cameras for
|their own protection for safety, theft, or even just construction
|progress videos/photos. The contractors themselves may or may not have
|a good relationship with the supposed company whose vehicle allegedly
|did this. As a commercial contractor myself, I can tell you there are
|definitely companies I would never, ever snitch on if they're good to
|me, in high demand, or do fantastic work. However, there are DEFINITELY
|companies out there I've worked with that I would love to have a reason
|to see them get their comeuppance on something like this. And more
|often than not, the companies that would sideswipe and flee are the bad
|kind that I would snitch on.

|Construction sites and road works often have temporary cameras set up,
|so those could be a lead. I'm glad your dad is ok, must have been
|quite a big whack if it needs to be cut away and rebuilt. In my
|experience with sleuthing cars, i find the local area mnemonic to be
|pretty useless, cars end up in different places all the time, and it's
|just where the car is registered, no more different then the port of
|reg on the back of a boat, cars are vehicles and vehicles tend to move,
|sometimes quite far from where they were registered, the rest of their
|fleet being registered in Reading makes me wonder if they have a
|central office there or moved from there for some reason, also possible
|the plates could have just changed for whatever reason. As i said in
|my previous post, keep an eye on nearby developments too, they're
|likely contracting out to some development.

|It was their dad's very first new car and he didn't have it for long.
|I completely understand feeling wronged. I don't see the harm, their
|last post had a lot of helpful comments on it and they seemed to
|enjoy investigating with the poster.
