More on 5e and a Bit on Gopher

Thanks to tomasino for the insightful [reply on my last post][0]. I
think you're right that the issue of 'too many rolls' is largely a
GM problem, as opposed to a system problem. That said, 5e encourages
this style of play - one just has to look at a 5e character sheet to
see the large number of skill rolls and bonuses available. The GM is
inexperienced, and the other players seem to be fine with the
rolling, which is why I have not spoken up. But I am going to try
and see what happens.

And speaking of my 5e group, I have told them I want to run a game
or two for them, and I've already gifted them each copies of [White
Box FMAG][1] so they have an idea of what a minimal, old-school game
system looks like. Hopefully in the next few weeks I'll be running a
game for them, I'll report here on how it goes.

Also I have to say I'm enjoying writing posts again on gopher. While
[my blog][2] gets more attention, it's far easier posting here. I
think I'll keep up posting in both and we'll see how it goes - the
blog is better suited to graphics-heavy posts, while gopher is more
suited for quick posts or things like my text adventures and house
rules.
