Welcome to the Canadian chapter of the GNU Project,
now in the gopherspace! GNU Canada hopes to be a welcoming
group of people working together on furthering GNU and the
free software movement in Canada through advocacy, activism,
as well as developing and contributing to free software
projects, especially GNU packages.
GNU was launched by Richard Stallman (rms) in 1983, with the
goal of developing a wholly free (as in freedom) operating
system, the GNU operating system, to give all software users
control and freedom over their computing. Today, the GNU
system is most commonly used with the kernel Linux, the
