Afghan Violence Leaves 2 Civilians Dead, 63 Wounded by Ayaz Gul A suicide car bomber Tuesday attacked a provincial police headquarters in southern Afghanistan, killing at least two people and wounding more than 51 others. Officials say almost all of the victims were civilians, including women and children. The attack happened in Lashkargah, the capital of Helmand province. Witnesses say the portion of the police headquarters where the bomber detonated his explosives-packed car is close to a civilian settlement. A spokesman for the provincial governor says that a second suicide bomber on foot tried to attack the regional police chief while he was inspecting the site of the earlier blast but security forces killed him before he could detonate his device. Meanwhile, officials have confirmed an overnight rocket attack on a house in Uruzgan province wounded 12 members of a family. A provincial governor spokesman told VOA Taliban insurgents fired the rocket at a security outpost but it instead hit the nearby civilian population. The United Nations has already documented a 16 percent rise in civilian casualties in the first four months of this year compared to the same period last year. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/afghan-violence-suicide-bombing-helma nd/2842646.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/afghan-violence-suicide-bombing-helmand/2842646.html
