Chinese Volunteers Help Children in Need

   by Helen Wu

A six-year-old girl in Yiwu is beaten to death by her own mother. Two
girls in Nanjing die from starvation in their own home. A girl is found
homeless in Shenzhen wandering in the streets with her mentally ill
mother. Such repeated cases of child abuse in China have shocked the
country and led to more attention to the protection of children's
rights. VOA's Helen Wu has more on how a small child protection service
center in Shanghai is doing what it can to help children in need.
