UN Boosts Peacekeeping Force in Disputed Abyei Region

The U.N. Security Council has voted to add more peacekeepers in the
disputed Abyei region on the border between Sudan and South Sudan.
In a vote Wednesday, the Council agreed to increase the size of the
U.N. Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) by 1,100, to just over
   5,300 troops.
The resolution calls on Sudan and South Sudan to provide full support
to U.N. personnel and to take actions necessary to protect civilians
   living in the region.
Oil-rich Abyei is claimed by both Sudans and efforts at international
arbitration have failed to settle the dispute. The sides fought clashes
in the region in 2011, just before South Sudan became independent.
