Venezuelan Presidential Election Set for April 14 Venezuela`s electoral commission says the country will hold a presidential election April 14 to replace Hugo Chavez, the socialist leader who died earlier this week of cancer. Saturday`s announcement comes a day after Vice President Nicolas Maduro -- Mr. Chavez` favored successor -- was sworn in as acting president. Analysts say Maduro is the early favorite to win the election in a face-off with opposition governor Henrique Capriles. Eighteen Latin American presidents and several other foreign leaders attended Friday`s funeral for Mr. Chavez. The United States sent a diplomatic delegation. President Chavez died Tuesday, two years after announcing his illness. His death devastated millions of mostly poor supporters who revered him for offering the promise of a better future. His death also gave renewed hope to opponents who denounced him as a dictator. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/venezuelan-presidential-election-set- for-april-14/1618612.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/venezuelan-presidential-election-set-for-april-14/1618612.html
