Clash in China's Xinjiang Kills 16 Chinese authorities say 16 people have been killed in a clash in China`s far western region of Xinjiang, home to the mostly Muslim Uighur ethnic minority. The local government released a statement on its official Internet site saying police were attacked on Sunday by several people armed with explosives and knives as they were on their way to arrest criminal suspects near the town of Kashgar in Xinjiang province. Two police officers were killed and 14 of the attackers were shot dead. Two suspects were detained. Xinjiang has been the scene of numerous incidents of unrest, which Beijing often blames on separatist Muslim Uighurs. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/clash-in-chinas-xinjiang-kills-16/181 0999.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/clash-in-chinas-xinjiang-kills-16/1810999.html
