UN Inspectors Visit Iranian Nuclear Plant

   by VOA News

Iranian media have reported inspectors from the U.N. nuclear watchdog
visited an Iranian heavy water production facility for the first time
   in two years.
The reports said the International Atomic Energy inspectors on Sunday
went to the Arak heavy water production plant, 245 kilometers southwest
   of the capital, Tehran.
The visit came just weeks after Iran agreed to an interim deal with the
permanent members of the U.N. Security Council and Germany. The deal
said Iran would limit portions of its nuclear program in exchange for
   targeted relief from international sanctions.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani told parliament Sunday that the
nuclear deal has already had a positive impact on the country's
   economy.
Western powers fear the Arak facility could provide Iran with plutonium
for nuclear weapons if the reactor's spent fuel is reprocessed.
Iran insists its nuclear ambitions are peaceful.
Some information for this report was provided by AP and AFP.
