Al-Qaida Carries Out Deadly Attack in Yemen by VOA News Yemeni officials say suspected al-Qaida militants have attacked intelligence headquarters in the southern city of Aden, killing at least 14 Yemeni soldiers and security personnel. Intelligence sources and witnesses say the militants attacked the building from two sides Saturday, firing rocket-propelled grenades and automatic weapons. At least seven soldiers were wounded. The militants managed to escape. Al-Qaida's Yemen-based network, al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, remains active in southern Yemen. Suspected militants have been carrying out a series of suicide bombings and assassinations on Yemeni officials. The network is also suspected of trying to pull off attacks on U.S. interests, including a failed plot in 2010 to blow up U.S.-bound cargo planes with explosives hidden in printer ink cartridges.
