Sun Unleashes Spectacular Solar Flare VOA News June 08, 2011 A solar flare has erupted from the sun in an impressive display captured by [1]NASA cameras. NASA says the flare peaked on Tuesday and created a large cloud that appeared to cover almost half the surface of the sun. Images were recorded by an orbiting satellite called the [2]Solar Dynamics Observatory. Solar energy released by the event should deliver a "glancing blow" to Earth's magnetic field on Wednesday or Thursday, NASA said. But it's not expected to cause a major impact. Some information for this report was provided by AP, AFP and Reuters. References 1. http://www.nasa.gov/ 2. http://sdo.gsfc.nasa.gov/
