spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini says any sanctions will have regional
and international repercussions Iran says it will retaliate against
any U.N. sanctions on its nuclear program.

Iran Foreign Ministry spokesman Mohammad Ali Hosseini said Sunday in
Tehran any U.N. sanctions will have regional and international
repercussions. He did not elaborate on actions Tehran might take in
response to sanctions. But he said the government would take what he
called "appropriate measures."

Hosseini's comments come days before a draft resolution is expected to
be submitted to the U.N. Security Council calling for limited
sanctions against Tehran.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman says Iran still wants to
negotiate a settlement of the issue. But he reaffirmed Tehran's
rejection of Western calls for the Islamic republic to halt uranium
enrichment before negotiations can take place.

Western nations, led by the United States, say Iran is seeking to
develop nuclear weapons. Iran says its nuclear program is solely aimed
at generating energy.
