Legal Group Campaigns to Have Attorney Linked to Torture Memos Disbarred
------------------------------------------------------------------------

A campaign has been launched to disbar former Pentagon attorney William
Haynes for his role in approving the Bush administration’s torture
policies. The National Lawyers Guild has filed a complaint with the
California State Bar against Haynes. The complaint states that Haynes
“breached his duty as a lawyer and advocated for harsh tactics amounting
to torture in violation of U.S. and international law.” Unlike several
other top Bush administration attorneys, Haynes was able to find a job
after leaving office. He is now chief corporate counsel at the oil giant
Chevron. The New York Times recently reported former Attorney General
Alberto Gonzales and Dick Cheney’s former chief of staff David Addington
are both still looking for work.
