------
MacTCP and InterSLIP are not easy to install for Internet access via modem.
However, the following FAQ should help to solve the most common problems
installing MacTCP and InterSLIP.

InterSLIP FAQ (frequently answered question)

To setup a proper InterSLIP connection you need (System 7 Macintosh assumed):

1. MacTCP 2.0.2 or later (latest version as of this posting is version 2.0.6).

Setup of MacTCP 2.0.2: MacTCP DNR to be in your system folder,
MacTCP to be in your Control Panels folder MacTCP Prep to be in your
preferences folder

2. Interslip 1.0.1.
which requires: InterSLIP setup in your Apple Menu Items folder
InterSLIP Extension in your Extensions Folder
Interslip Folder in your preferences folder
Trash InterSLIP Control Panel, it was used only in earlier versions of InterSLIP

A dialing script called a sent to you by your modem manufacturer and
sitting in your Interslip Folder/Dialing Scripts folder.
It must have been specifically designed for InterSLIP.
This means before getting a modem, make sure than a script has
been made for your modem.

3. A gateway script provided by your internet service
provider sitting in your Interslip Folder/Gateway scripts folder

4. A $15 Hardware Handshaking cable for your modem, if your Internet
service provider gives you option of using hardware handshaking (doesn't
make sense for internal modems, thus you should leave Hardware Handshaking
disabled for those modems unless otherwise specified by the modem
manufacturer).

5. If planning to download images larger than 120k you need at least a
9600 BAUD modem which takes two minutes to download such an image, and the
service provider needs to have a line that is at least that fast.

6. If planning to download movies larger than 500k you need at least a
14.4k BAUD modem on both sides which would take 15 minutes at that rate.

7. For those of you planning on getting a 28.8k BAUD modem, be sure that the
internet service provider in your area has a 28.8k BAUD modem of the same
protocol of the modem you are buying. V. FC (Vfast) and V. 34 are NOT
compatible when one protocol is on the host and the other protocol is on
the server. The addon chip to make them compatible does not work.

8. To have a provider whose lines are not busy, and never allow more than
10 rings to connect. Exception: if you run InterSLIP setup and it reads
<connected>, then you can use other Internet based software.

9. To not run any other extensions while connecting to the Internet, other
than the ones mentioned above. Printing extensions are fine, FAXModem
   extensions are NOT.

10. Do NOT open any Gopher, WWW, E-mail, Telnet, FTP software (called
TCP/IP clients) until after you have properly connected through
the Interslip Setup. Proper connection, implies that Interslip Setup says
connected, and your High Speed (HS), Off-Hook (OH), Terminal Ready (TR),
Carrier Detect (CD) lights on your modem are all on, and InterSLIP setup
registars <connected>. This is repeated, because of numerous problems
running clients when lines are either busy, or connection is improperly
    established.

11.

A good modem INIT to help you for your Interslip Setup is (Hayes
    compatible modems only):

    AT&F&C1&D2&Q5&K3Q0E1V1L1X4S7=50S11=95^M

These 11 steps should assist in solving most of your InterSLIP connection
problems. Hope this helps.

return your e-mail within a week.

and InterSLIP by InterCon.
