Please note that there may be differences between the Japanese and English versions. This file is best viewed using a fixed-width font. If you're looking for the answer to a specific question, but don't want to risk spoiling the rest of the game, check the "Frequently Asked Questions" section first to see if it's there. ----I. General game advice The game can be saved by talking to the "Save Butlers". They look like Moai heads holding a book. The main character can do three attacks: Press Y button => Attach with cape (short-range attack) Hold Y button and release => Attack with hat (long-range attack) Press Y button repeatedly => "Cape Typhoon" (attack multiple targets, but you're dizzy for a few seconds) Magic is cast using "cards". These can be bought from shops or found. When you die, you're given two options: restart from where the Chief Butler is, or from the last saved game. Restoring from a save acts the way you think. Starting from the Chief Butler's location lets you regain all your HP and keep your progress, but you'll have to walk all the way back to where you left off. ----II. Story A long time ago, there was Makai, a world where monsters lived. Makai was divided into three kingdoms- Drakyla, Vamparella and Owarusa. The countries took turns, each ruling Makai for 1000 years. But when the king of Owarusa became the 99th Great King, he decided to conquer the entire country, attacking the other two kings. ----III. ---A. Drabo Rue Drakyla the 999th (aka Dorabocchan) Age: 175 (10 in human years) The main character, the son of the Drakyla royal family. He's sort of like a vampire, but he drinks tomato juice rather than blood. He doesn't like garlic. This is probably why his life points are measured in units of tomatoes and enemy life points are measured in units of garlics. ---B. Princess Camilla le Vamparella Age: 190 (11 in human years) The daughter of the Vamparella royal family. She teams up with Drabo to rescue her mother from Owarusa. ---C. Kowaru Age: 205 (13 in human years) A mysterious boy who joins Drabo on his journey. The girls like him, but he's not interested. The name is a pun on the japanese words for "little bad". ----IV. Village shops ---1. Dowson's Shop A general store runs by a cute unicorn centaur. They're marked with a big "SHOP" sign. You can buy new hats and healing cards here. ---2. Carddas Machine It's a card vending machine. It gives you a random card for 20 J. You can get just about any card here, if you're lucky. On a side note, Carddas machines are/were a real thing. FAQ Q: I went to the second floor ot Drakyla castle, but it's a dead end! A: Go west and talk to the butler. He'll break through the wall. Q: I can't find the Sandrats' lair. A: Keep going west whenever you can. The entrance is a little bit hidden. Q: How do I defeat Icegon? A: You need the Nabeyaki Udon card. In the room with the save butler, jump into the western hole. You'll land on a platform with some monsters eating dinner and they'll give you the card. Use the card when fighting Icegon. Q: How do I get out of Zazaza Jungle? A: You have to pick the right path or you'll end up back at the beginning. If you pick the right path, you'll hear a bell. If you pick the wrong one, you'll hear laughter. To get from the crash site to Utsubozurazura, the correct path is: E-E-N-W-S-W-N. To get from where you fought Utsubozurazura to the exit, go W-N-E-N-N. Q: What the heck does "de bokkun" mean, anyway? A: It's Drabo's little affection. "Boku" is a word for "I", and he changed it a bit. IX: Walkthrough: ---1. Training Island Drabo, the Chief Butler and some butler-sheep arrive on Training Island. It's time for Drabo's lessons to begin, but he'd rather be playing in the castle. Camilla runs in, in a panic. She explains that Owarusa has attacked and Drabo needs to fight them, too, since he's a prince. Drabo doesn't want to, since he hasn't even practiced fighting, yet. This makes Camilla mad. She says she'll fight on her own and runs off. But Drabo still needs to practice. The Chief Butler gives him a two-way phone and says he'll call if anything happens. He'll call when you level-up. Head north. There, Drabo meets the elder of the island, an old man with fairy wings. He says the first thing to practice is jumping. Logs come rolling in. Press the B button to jump over them. Once you're done, the elder tells you to go to the next area. In the next area, the lesson is the Cape Attack. Press the Y button to attack with your cape. Use it to destroy rocks until the elder tells you to stop. Go north and stand of the seesaw. One of the butlers launches you into the mountains. Now it's time to practice the Hat Boomerang. Hold the Y button and release to throw your hat. Knock the flying sheep out of the sky until the elder appears. Go east. The bridge falls and you land on a raft. While floating, knock out any of the fish that come near. You end up at the final test. You must defeat the elder's magic staff. Once you've beaten it, the elder gives you a Card Case. You store magic cards in it. Use the L and R buttons to select a card, and the A button to use it. MEANWHILE, while Drabo was on the island, the witch Endora of the Owarusa army has invaded the Drakyla castle. She leaves her underlong Hyou-Hyou in charge. ---2. Drakyla castle Drabo arrives back in his village. The chief butler gives you 100 jara and tells you to buy some cards. Use the save butler to save your game and talk to the villagers. The king has been captured and taken to Owarusa. There was a suspicious boy lurking around, too. Go investigate the castle. The door is locked. Go back across the drawbridge and the chief butler will call. He asks where rabo is. After Drabo tells him, he says that he hid a key near the moat to the left of the door. Go west to the end of the walkway. The king's pet surfaces and says the key was taken by the one of the Mr. Garlics hanging around the bridge. Go east to find it. Once you have the key, enter the castle. Head up the stairs in the NE, out onto the balcony and west. There's a butler there. He'll give you a sharp kick that sends you flying into the far wall, breaking it. Save your game and go back into the castle through the far door. Go south to another balcony and go west, dodging the spikes. At the end of the walkway is a spring. Jump on it. You'll fall into the moat, but the pet in the moat will put you where you'd intended to go. Keep going until you get to a room with a big armored monster. The Hat Boomerang works well against it, as it moves slowly and packs a wallop if you get too close. Go up the stairs and across the rafters. At the other end is locked door. Go back up into the rafters and find the mother spider. You'll have to use the Hat Boomerang to reach her. Once she'd gone, a key drops from her web into the room below. Go back to the room where you saw the rafters' shadows on the floor and it will be there. Use the key to unlock the door. Back on the balcony, jump over the waves in the carpet to keep from being pushed back. Get rid of the catgirls moving the carpet and they'll stop. Head south, then east to the farthest door to find a key. Then go back to the first door and through a couple of rooms to find the door it unlocks. In the next hallway are grates in the wall. They'll suck you toward them. Go into the tunnel at the end of the hall. It leads to the dungeons. You find the queen there. Drabo promised to get rid of Hyou-Hyou and free her. The queen says that Hyou-Hyou is level 4 and has set traps. She gives you a Balloon Card. It will take you back to the Chief Butler. If you're not level 4, yet, go fight monsters until you are. You might even want to go back to the village and get the Kirakira hatm as you probably have enough for it, by now. Continue through the tunnel and hallways until you find a save butler. Go up the stairs to the west. Go east in the first walkway to get a key, then through the door on the top floor. You've reached the throne room and Hyou-Hyou is waiting. She attacks. Again, use the Hat Boomerang. It has a longer range than her staff, so keep your distance. If she meows and jumps, keep moving, or she'll land on top of you. When her HP gets low, she'll recharge and you'll have to start over. Once you beat her, she'll beg for mercy and give you a gold brick if you let her go. But it's a trap! Pick up the brick and a cage falls on you. Hyou-Hyou gloats. But a strange boy comes and breaks the cage. Drabo takes the chance to finish Hyou-Hyou off. The strange boy scolds Drabo for falling for such a trap. He introduces himself as Kowaru and says that if Drabo had died now, he'd be in trouble. Drabo is confused. The queen enters and thanks Kowaru, saying that Drabo has found a good friend. Kowaru objects to the "friend" part, but can't refuse her request for help. Kowaru joins you. MEANWHILE, the king of Owarusa yells at Endora for letting Drakyla castle be taken back. She says it was a mistake to leave things to Hyou-Hyou, but another underling, Wanidojin is still on Drakyla... ---3. Karara Desert Back in Derorin village, the Chief Butler says the queen has taken shelter on Training Island for now. The butler-sheep are watching out for her. A letter has arrived from the Sandrat Nest. It says that Camilla collapsed there from heat sickness and was asking for Drabo. Drabo wants to go help her. Go stock up on supplies and talk to the butler again when you're ready to go. Everyone sets off in the royal car. Along the way, there's a sign saying to watch out for falling rocks. 5 seconds later, a rock falls, crushing the car (and maybe some sheep-butlers?) and sending everyone flying. Drabo will have to walk the rest of the way. The chief butler will stay and try to fix the car. A ways up the mountain, you'll be ambushed by archers. It's and Sandrats, and they think you're working for Owarusa. Drabo explains who he is. Kowaru isn't so anxious to, but Drabo says he's his friend. The sandrats don't believe him and Kowaru almost loses his temper. Eventually, the Sandrat elder comes and tells everyone that he invited Drabo here. He takes you to Camilla. Camilla's fever hasn't improved, but water from the oasis in Karara desert may help. The problem is, the Owarusa army has built a pyramid there and are hoarding all the water. The monsters in the pyramid is level 7, and the sandrats are too weak to fight them. In the SE corner of the sandrat village is a tomato plant that will restore your life. Leave the nest and go west. You'll have to jump across stone platforms to get to the Karara desert. The purple ghosts will push you, but you can knock them away with your cape (you can destroy them, but it takes forever). You can also jump on the floating jellyfish thingies. At the end, the jellyfish drops you in the middle of the desert. There's a save butler, a shop and a Carddas machine. Go north to reach the pyramid. Endora's other underling, Wanidojin is there. He intends to have all Makai's water sucked up by the Desert Root he has planted, so he can hoard it all for himself. Drabo objects, of course, and they fight. This time, you can stay back and let Kowaru handle the fighting, if you want. If Wanidojin starts roaring, he's about to swing his spear, so back away. Like Hyou-Hyou, he'll recharge his life points once when they get low. No comment on what the spear-looking thing on the front of his tunic might be. After Wanidojin is dead, his shield still bounces around. You can destroy it, too, if you want. In the next room is the Desert Root Wanidojin spoke of. Climb the stairs to the top. On the second level is a room full of monsters and a pink flower that you can whack for some easy life points. E-E-N-W-S-W-N At the top is a save butler. After that, you fight the Desert Root. It refuses to give back the water, so you'll have to tak e it by force. Kowaru isn't much use, and the Hat Boomerang is the only thing that will reach. Have the Hanehane hat and be at least level 8. Run to the sides when the tree arms come down and keep moving when it shoots leaves. After the tree is defeated, it gives back the water, saying it's going back to the Zazaza jungle to live a quiet life. MEANWHILE, the King of Owarusa rips Endora another new one. But now she's out of underlings. No matter. The heroes will almost certainly be headed for Vamparella, where Icegon will take care of them. ----4. Ice Palace Drabo returns to the Sandrat lair and gives the water to Camilla. The next morning, Camilla is good as new. She thanks Drabo and he's embarassed. The Chief Butler arrives in the new-and-improved car. And to top it off, the Sandrats have been digging a tunnel to Vamparella for Camilla. It's almost finished. Everyone crowds into the car and sets off through the new tunnel. Well, everyone except Kowaru, who runs after it. Vamparella is covered in snow. It was originally warm, but something Owarusa did made it freeze. Camilla insists on coming with you, since it's her country. Kowaru decides to take a rest. He's tired from all that running. Ahead is Ehacomb Village, near Vamparella Castle. Like Drakyla, Vamparella has been invaded by Owarusa. The Queen has been taken to Owarusa. A monster called Icegon has taken over the pass to Vamparella castle and made himself a palace out of ice. The only way to get there is by airship. One villager mentions shoes that make jumps more powerful, which are supposed to be nearby. Head east, into the snow plains. If you hit the spiked plants, you'll be paralyzed for a few seconds, so stay away. A ways up the mountain, you'll find a lever. Hit it and the platform will lower. Go into the cave and follow the frozen river until you find a woman wrapped in a cloak. She knows who Drabo is. Apparently, he's already famous here. She tells you a secret- Icegon's secret weakness is noodle dumplings (nabeyaki udon), and he's about level 11. After you leave, the woman drops her cloak. It's Endora herself. She figures that once Icegon is gone, she'll be the most powerful in all of Makai. Drabo suddenly comes back, realizing he forgot to ask her name. She answers "Endo" before realizing what she's doing. At the top of the mountain is a save butler. Go through the cave to the ice palace. Inside is Icegon. He wonders if Drabo is strong enough to be worth fighting, and challenges him. Fight for a bit. You won't be able to hurt Icegon, so just dodge the ice spikes. Eventually, Icegon decides Drabo is too weak and tells him to come back once he's practiced more. Go through the castle and over the ice walkways. The path splits, but it all leads to the same place. Jump over the bombs and rolling cylinders and avoid the falling icicles. In the room with the save butler, there are holes in the floor. Jump into the west one and you'll land on a platform with a bunch of ice monsters enjoying some dinner. They give you some- in the form of a card, that is. Luckily for you, they were having nabeyaki udon. Go back to the save butler and jump into the eastern hole. Follow the path to meet Icegon again. When the fight starts, use the Nabeyaki Udon card. From then on, you'll be able to beat him. Hits with the cape still won't work, but the hat will, especially if you have the Inazuma Hat. When you beat him, he says he's glad to have met someone strong. You're the strongest warrior he's met. The ice palace crumbles, but he called a giant bird to take you out of there. Outside, Drabo thinks he might have liked Icegon, if he hadn't ended up working for Owarusa. MEANWHILE, King Owarusa complains to Endora. He tells her to summon all the monsters on the Owarusa continent to fortify their castle, and dispatch the captives taken from Drakyla. But Endora says there's a problem. He told their monster Utsubozurazura to kill anything that came near the castle, and he took that command a little too literally. All that's left are the king and Endora. ----5. Owarusa Drabo and Camilla return to Ihacomb. The ice has melted. The villagers have agreed to let them use their airship, so now they can get to Owarusa. There supposedly aren't any shops on Owarusa, so buy what you need now. When you're ready talk to the Chief Butler again. The ship sets off for Owarusa. But before it can get there, the engine catches fire. It crash-lands in the Zazaza jungle. Camilla is thrown from the ship. Drabo decided to go find her. The butler warns Drabo that in the Zazaza jungle, if you don't follow exactly the right path, you'll end up going in circles and never get out. Just north of the crash site, you find Camilla. She's alive, but she's twisted her leg. Drabo and Kowaru decide to go on ahead. Camilla will catch up once she's able. To navigate the jungle, listen for the monsters' laughter. If they laugh, you chose the wrong path and you're back at the beginning. If you hear a bell, you picked the right path. To get out, go E-E-N-W-S-W-N. At the other end of the jungle, you find Utsubozurazura. You have to fight him. It's not hard. The only thing to watch out for is the firey vine. You can jump to avoid this. After beating Utsubozurazura, go north. It's another jungle maze. This time, go W-N-E-N-N. You exit the jungle at Owarusa castle. Endora is waiting there. Drabo recognizes her as the "Endo" he met before and wonders why she's there. She reveals her real identity. Now, if she can beat the ones who beat Icegon, she'll be the strongest warrior in Owarusa, without a doubt. Once Endora is defeated, Kowaru speaks up. It seems he knows her. He says this is her punishment for manipulating his father into invading the rest of Makai. Wait, father? Kowaru reveals his own secret. He's the prince of Owarusa. He left the castle when the invasion started. But Endora says the invasion was the king's own idea. All she did was follow his orders... Drabo says they should go find the king and find out the truth. Kowaru is surprised that Drabo still wants him around, knowing who he is, but Drabo insists they are friends. Continue on to the throne room. The king is there. Drabo demands that he let his father and Camilla's mother go. Kowaru tries to convince him, too, but it doesn't work. The fight is on. It's not too hard, probably easier than the fight with Endora. Once you beat him, a dark cloud appears from within the king. It identifies itself as Dark, the emperor of darkness. Kowaru demands to know if it was he who was controlling his father. The cloud says it was. It restores the king's life points and the fight is on again. Staying on the north side of the room is safest. The spaces by the throne are safe from most of the attacks, and Owarusa usually stays put on the other side once you're there. Just hang out and throw your hat. ----6. Ending With Owarusa defeated again, the dark cloud says it'll go possess the girl, instead and leaves. It must mean Camilla. Hurry after it. Drabo and Kowaru chase the cloud through the jungle. Eventually, they hear Camilla scream. Are they too late? They hear Dark's voice, then a thud, and Camilla appears. Kowaru says not to be decieved. Drabo demands that Dark let Camilla go. Camilla doesn't know what they're talking about. She tosses something on the ground. The something turns out to be Dark. She's walloped him good. Kowaru is a little embarrassed that he was so worried, but doesn't want to make the one who whacked Dark mad. So now Owarusa is back to normal, Camilla's mother is free and Drabo has his parents back. Makai is peaceful again. The future is up to Drabo, Camilla and Kowaru. The credits roll, and you have finished Chou Makai Taisen Dorabocchan. Congratulations... de bokkun.
