This is not a gameplay FAQ! If you want to know how to play the game, please
consult Everett Parra (mewthepokemon)'s comprehensive FAQ at GameFAQs.
As of April 2003, it appears that the US and UK releases of Space Channel 5
part 2 have been canned. As a result, there will be a lot of Western gamers
wanting to play it on import from Japan. This FAQ is aimed at improving the
enjoyment of import gamers.
0.1 About the Translation
-------------------------------------------
This is the official translation from an English-language copy of the game,
as transcribed by me. The script is copyright UGA and Sega, but this
transcription is copyright 2003 Helen-Louise Windsor.
I am unsure of the origin of the game I have. It is obviously legitimate, as
it has all the usual identification features (printed disc with holograms
underneath, hologram on cover, etc). The catalogue number is SCES 50612, and
it is a PAL edition. I'm assuming that it's Australian, as the official
Playstation website http://au.playstation.com says that Space Channel 5 part
2 _has_ actually been released there. If anyone knows better, let me know!
The English-language version of the game plays like a late beta. There are no
hiccups in gameplay, but occasionally the soundtrack lapses into Japanese.
Some members of the posse do not dance correctly, and some characters are not
rendered to the same extent as others. These bugs will be listed in section
3.0 of this FAQ.
1.0 Complete English Translation
-------------------------------------------
The vast majority of what follows below is the soundtrack. Sung parts are
indicated by (sung) after the character name and before the text.
Anything in square brackets: [text] is text appearing on the screen.
"Posse" means Ulala and the rescuees following her. Very occasionally, I have
not been able to make out which character is speaking - if this is the case,
you will see two names with a question mark.
Sometimes characters speak different phrases depending on how well you have
been playing. If this is the case, the line is marked by a single asterisk:
*, along with the different phrases separated by a slash: /. Some of these
are incomplete, either because it's a bit I can't play or because I _can_ and
don't want to play it deliberately badly(!). At a few places in the game, if
you have been playing extremely well, a special extra set of moves/lyrics
appears. These extra moves are listed in section 2.2.
Occasionally, it has been necessary to include directions. Double asterisks:
** indicate video sequences. BLOCK CAPITALS indicate battles.
Like mewthepokemon, I have not bothered to transcribe all the action parts of
the game (eg. Left - right - chu chu chu) as that would make this FAQ
insanely long. And they're not very helpful without the music!

2.1 Hidden Rhythm Points
-------------------------------------------
Please see section I of mewthepokemon's comprehensive FAQ to understand what
is meant by hidden rhythm points and their locations. Here, I only include
the points that need translation if you have an English-language version of
the game.
Whenever mewthepokemon’s FAQ mentions "Channel wa... *SO*no mama.", this is
"St-a-AY tuned!" in English, and you need to hit CHU or HEY on the "AY" of
"St-a-AY".
REPORT 2:
#6: After Pudding pops up, she'll say "Good evening everyone. IT'S me,
Pudding!". Push on the "IT'S".
#8: Ulala says "St-a-AY" but not the rest.
#9: This one is tricky. When the camera starts focusing on the giant plant
boss, she says "Loook!" and you must push at the same time she starts
talking.
REPORT 3:
#1: As Pudding zooms towards Ulala, she says: "The scoop is MI-I-INE!".
You have to hit at the "INE".
REPORT 4:
#2-#6: As the rescue team glide downwards they'll be chanting "Urk! *HRK!*".
Press on every "Hrk!". They say this eight times in total, but there are only 5
rhythm points here, on the 2nd - 6th times. After the 6th time, you hear
Noize and Fuse talking, the rescue squad's vocal fades into the background,
and the Hrk!s no longer give rhythm points. If you don't save the captain,
the hidden rhythm points still work, but you only have the music as a guide:
there is no vocal track.
For reports 1 and 3-6, when you hit the secret rhythm points, you get
Morolians appearing on the screen briefly. On report 2, instead of giving you
Morolians, there are comments. These are as follows in the English language

Q: Where has Space Channel 5 Part 2 been released?
A: In Japan, Australia and New Zealand. I have heard a rumour that it is
going to be released in all European countries except the UK, but I don't
know how true this is.
Q: Why has the release been cancelled in the US and UK?
A: Beats me! I have two guesses: Perhaps Space Channel 5 did not sell well on
the PS2, so Sony did not want to release SC5p2 - but that seems an unlikely
reason to can the sequel, when execs should have known that a lot of people
would have bought the game on the Dreamcast, and wouldn't need to buy a PS2
version as well. Or, perhaps more likely, recent press coverage about Michael
Jackson made UK/US execs freak about the more major role of "Space Michael"
in SC5p2. These are both guesses, though.
I'm also not sure whether it was Sony or Sega who made the decision to scrap
the release.
Q: Where can you buy an English language version of SC5p2?
A: I got mine from Computer Exchange, a UK import games chain. I have also
seen them on eBay.
Q: How does the English language version compare to the Japanese language
version?
A: I don't know - I don't speak Japanese, and haven't played the Japanese
version. Sorry! I hope to get it at a later date.
Q: How do you pronounce Ulala?
A: Ooh-la-la. Not You-la-la.
Q: Is there an official abbreviation for Space Channel 5 part 2?
A: Not as such. Precisely once in the English language edition (at the
initial memory card stage) it is called SC5.2. mewthepokemon decided to use
SC5p2 and I have also used that, for consistency.
