This is a game that I played a lot as a kid, but was never really able to beat until I started playing it recently. In this guide, I hope to give you strategies and tips to beat each level in the game and finish successfully. I'll almost always give permission, but only if you ask first. II. Walkthrough ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This walkthrough is written for one player, so select the single player mode to begin. This game is pretty simple: every level has multiple "mini-stages" within it that you'll have to advance through all the way to the bonus stage at the top. Each mini-stage is just a different story of the level. Each group of levels takes place on a mountain. There are 32 mountains total in this game, and each one has a bonus stage at the end of it which will net you some extra points. It's a great way to increase your score, and I suggest going for the full bonus if you want a really high score. =========== Mountain 01 =========== You'll start out on Level 1. Jump up and break open a path in the blocks above you so that you can jump up onto Level 2. When you reach Level 2, do the same to get to Level 3. Simply jump up and smack open a passage. By Level 3 you'll want to start watching out for the little seals that start coming out. You can strike them with you hammer by pressing B if they get too close. Try and run all the way to the right and break open a path there so that the seals don't get too close. Keep repeating this strategy, making you way up through Level 4 and beyond. You should reach the bonus stage in a short amount of time. BONUS STAGE: Now this is where it gets a little bit harder. You see the cloud moving back and forth above you? Jump on that and then jump up to the next platform above you. It's not imperative that you complete this level, but you get more points if you do. When you get to the top of the level, jump up and grab the red flying bird. Also, make sure to watch you time limit and adjust accordingly. =========== Mountain 02 =========== You can just jump up to the second level now, seeing as to how the path has been cleared for you. From Level 2, break open a path to Level 3 and continue upward. Now on Level 3, you'll have to jump on the cloud that's passing by. Watch out for the nitpicker on the right hand side. Another thing to watch out for are the falling icicles, which will hurt you. You'll see them poke out of the top of the level you're on and shake for a bit before falling. Just don't stand under them when they begin to shake and you'll be fine. Other than that, bust your way through each level, clearing a path above you, and avoid the nitpickers and seals, as well as the icicles. BONUS STAGE: All you have to do is jump up to the above platform. Collect as many of the carrots as you can. The clouds that are going back and forth are extremely helpful, so use those. When you get to the top, jump up and grab the red bird for full bonus points =========== Mountain 03 =========== Level 1 is easy here, just jump onto the cloud to get to Level 2. Level 2 here is a bit tricky. Jump onto the cloud and start pummeling the ground above you as quick as you can. You need to clear a path before the cloud moves away from your position. After you clear the path, jump up to Level 3. Watch the nitpicker (the red bird) and blast your way through the ground above. Also, falling icicles are back in this level, so make sure not to stand under them. It should be smooth sailing all the way up to Level 6 from there. On Level 6, jump onto the cloud and up to Level 8. I suggest staying on the left-hand side of the level and jumping up onto the cloud, and then Level 8. From there just hop on up to the bonus stage. BONUS STAGE: Collect the cabbage on the platforms beside you if you have enough time to spare. If not, simply wait for the cloud to get over you and jump onto it. This part is tricky, because you need to jump from moving cloud to moving cloud to make it to the top. Just wait on a cloud until the next one comes over you and jump up onto it. Repeat this to make it to the top and grab onto the bird. =========== Mountain 04 =========== The first three levels here are pretty easy. Jump onto the fragmented platforms of Level 2, and then jump on the cloud to break open a path to Level 4. Stay on the right-hand side and break a path up to Levels 5 and 6. At Level 6, jump up onto the cloud at Level 7. WATCH OUT FOR THE ICICLE UNDER THE LEVEL 8 CLOUD. Avoid this and jump up to the Level 8 cloud, and then up to the bonus stage. BONUS STAGE: Collect the green pepper thingies and jump onto the clouds to make your way up. Budget your time and don't go after more points if you can't afford to lose time. Just like the previous bonus stages, just jump up and grab the bird at the top. =========== Mountain 05 =========== Jump onto the Level 2 cloud and break your way onto Level 3. I suggest staying on the right-hand side for this, because at Level 5 there's really fast cloud that you can jump right onto when you get up there. Ride that cloud and break open the next level quickly. Watch the icicles falling from the clouds at Level 6, and jump onto the Level 7 cloud to make your way to Level 8 and then the bonus stage. BONUS STAGE: Collect the corn if you have time. Otherwise, jump onto the cloud and make your way up the ice platforms to grab the bird at the top. Hooray, bonus points! =========== Mountain 06 =========== Ride the clouds to Level 4. Jump up to the split platforms on Level 5 and then to Level 6. Here, watch out for the icicles that drop from the clouds, as well as the nitpickers. Jump your way up to Level 8 by riding the clouds and get to the bonus stage. BONUS STAGE: Jump onto the cloud and grab the little radishes (or onions, or whatever they are) on the next platform up. Jump up onto the next cloud and then the next platform, then ride up the next two clouds to get to the final platform and then the top. Grab the bird. =========== Mountain 07 =========== Wait for the cloud to get to side of the wall that you're on and then jump onto it. Jump up onto Level 3. Watch the nitpicker and continue to make your way up through Levels 4 and 5. Also make sure not to stand anywhere near the icicles. When you get to Level 6, jump onto the cloud and bust your way through onto Level 8. BONUS STAGE: Grab the pumpkins and ride the clouds up to each new platform. Get to the top and grab the bird for bonus points. =========== Mountain 08 =========== Jump up to Level 2 and then jump on the Level 3 cloud. Break open the path to Level 4 and continue upward. Watch the icicles on the cloud and jump onto the Level 5 cloud. Break your way up through Levels 6 and 7. Be careful: the clouds here most extremely fast. You may only have time to jump on the cloud and hit the ground above you once. Make sure to watch the icicles and the nitpickers. Jump onto the Level 8 cloud and up to the bonus stage. BONUS STAGE: Grab the little onion things if time allows. Otherwise, just bounce up from cloud to cloud until you reach the next solid platform. Jump up to the next platform, and then jump on the cloud. Jump up to the top and grab the bird to get your full bonus. =========== Mountain 09 =========== Break through into Level 2 and make your way up, avoiding nitpickers and icicles, as well as riding clouds when you have to. BONUS STAGE: Make sure to grab the power-ups, as you should have time (I always did on this stage). Simply jump up then and grab the bird. =========== Mountain 10 =========== Like the previous levels, avoid the nitpickers and other obstacles that make life harder for you. Ride the clouds up and break through the ground when you have to. What will hurt the most are probably icicles. Keep an eye out for them to make sure they don't catch you off guard. BONUS STAGE: Grab the little bonus point award thingies (I don't even know what they are this time). This bonus stage is pretty straightforward, so just keep jumping up and grab the bird at the top. =========== Mountain 11 =========== This is really similar to all the previous levels, so I won't go into too much detail. One thing I will warn you about is the fact that the clouds move a lot faster in this stage. Though they are wider than previous stages, so that should help you out. BONUS STAGE: Same as the others, grab the eggplants and race to the bird at the top. =========== Mountain 12 =========== Jump up through the levels. You won't have to break through any ground in this stage as that has already been done for you. Simply make your way to the top until you reach the bonus stage. BONUS STAGE: Simple. Grab the carrots and race to the bird. =========== Mountain 13 =========== Race up through Levels 1, 2, and 3. At Level 4, it's probably just easier to break through the ground even though there's already a gap on the right-hand side. Watch the nitpicker and ride the cloud up to the bonus stage. BONUS STAGE: Pick up the cabbage if time allows. Race up through the clouds and grab the bird for bonus points. =========== Mountain 14 =========== Jump on to the clouds and get to Level 4. Watch the icicles here and continue to use the clouds until you reach Levels 5, 6, and 7. Race through Level 8 and you should reach the bonus stage. This level has a lot of clouds, so make sure you keep your timing right and you should do fine. BONUS STAGE: Same as the others. Grab the point bonuses and race to the bird at the top. Bird-dude will give you awesome bonus points. =========== Mountain 15 =========== Race up to Level 5 and break through to Level 6. Ride the clouds up to the bonus stage. Watch out for the nitpickers here, as they can make this relatively easy stage a hard one. Don't jump onto a cloud if you think there's a chance a nitpicker will hit you. BONUS STAGE: Collect the corn for bonuses and race to the top of the stage to grab the bird. Oh yeah, bonus points. =========== Mountain 16 =========== Jump onto the Level 2 cloud and then onto the Level 3 fragmented platforms. From here, avoid the nitpicker and jump onto the cloud. Break open the path to Level 5 quickly and race up. Jump onto Level 6 and then onto Level 7. Hitch a ride on the Level 8 cloud and make your way into the bonus stage. BONUS STAGE: Collect the little onion/raddish things for more bonus points. The clouds here go pretty fast, so time your jumps accordingly. Don't sacrifice your time for bonus points if you don't think you'll make it. Simply rush up to the top and grab the bird. Hooray! =========== Mountain 17 =========== Break open paths up to the next two levels and continue to make your ascent. Watch out for nitpickers, as they can be particularly annoying on this level. Also watch out for the icicles. I was repeatedly killed by them. It is not a pleasant feeling. When you get near the end, watch the cloud because it moves pretty fast, so you will have to jump and break open a path pretty quickly. Just rush through and make your way to the bonus stage. BONUS STAGE: Collect the pumpkins. Make sure you don't miss the clouds. As they will cost you a lot of time. Get to the top and catch the bird. =========== Mountain 18 =========== Break up to level 2. Watch the nitpicker. You don't need to jump onto the cloud here because you can just stick to the left-hand side and break your way up to level 4. Go up to level 5 and break up to level 6. Use the cloud to get up to 7 and then 8, and get to the bonus stage. BONUS STAGE: There are four bonus point items here. You probably should have time to grab them, so do so and race to the top to grab the bird. =========== Mountain 19 =========== Race upward to level 5. It's a pretty big cloud-filled gap to there. When you get to level 6, watch the cloud, as it moves pretty fast. BONUS STAGE: Collect the power-ups if you have time and grab the red bird at the top. =========== Mountain 20 =========== Jump onto the level 2 cloud and break your way up to level 3. Watch the nitpicker here. Break up to level 4 and then to level 5. On level 6, jump onto the first cloud, and then jump onto the next level 8 cloud. Make your way to the bonus stage. BONUS STAGE: You should have plenty of time to catch the bonus point items on your way up. There are several clouds in this bonus stage, so time your jumps accordingly and you'll do fine. Get to the top and grab the red bird for your full bonus points. =========== Mountain 21 =========== There's already a gap made up to level 2 this time, and to level 3. Just jump up through these and make your way up to level 4, which you'll have to break up into. Watch the nitpicker flying around level 4. Keep breaking your way up and jump on the clouds you come across. Head up into the bonus stage. BONUS STAGE: Collect the eggplants and grab the red bird at the top. =========== Mountain 22 =========== Race up to level 5, as it's a pretty straight shot to there with nothing to break, really. Watch out for the flying icicle cloud, it's pretty dangerous. Keep making your way up until you reach the bonus stage. BONUS STAGE: Same as every other bonus stage. Keep going until you reach the\ bird at the top, and collect any bonus point items along the way. =========== Mountain 23 =========== Jump the gaps up to level 2, then beyond to levels 3, 4, and 5. Watch the annoying little nitpicker flying around here. He shouldn't give you too much trouble. Also make sure to watch for the icicles. This stage is pretty straightforward except for the one breakthrough you have to do near level 8. But after that you just jump up to the bonus stage. BONUS STAGE: Collect the cabbage (that what it looks like to me) for more bonus points. Then just race up, jumping on the clouds and platforms, and grab the red bird at the top. =========== Mountain 24 =========== Break up to level 2, then jump the gap to level 4. Break up to level 4 and then to level 5. As always, watch the nitpickers and icicles. From level 5, break up to level 6, then 7, and jump the cloud to the bonus stage. BONUS STAGE: Collect the green pickle/pepper bonus point thingies and grab the red bird at the top. =========== Mountain 25 =========== Break up to level 2, and then jump the two clouds up to level 5. Watch the nitpicker, as always, as well as the icicles. From level 5, break up to level 6 and then jump up to level 7. The clouds here move really fast, so make sure to time your jumps right. Make your way up to the bonus stage. BONUS STAGE: Collect the corn and keep moving upward until you are able to grab the red bird. =========== Mountain 26 =========== Jump the gap up to level 2, and then jump through the gap to level 3 and then levels 4 and 5. Watch for the nitpicker. You'll have a clear run all the way to level 6, where you'll have to break through to level 7. There you just jump on the cloud for level 8 and get to the bonus stage. BONUS STAGE: Collect the onions/radishes and rush to the bird at the top. The clouds here move pretty slow, so you should be able to catch them. =========== Mountain 27 =========== Jump onto the clouds for level 2. Time your jump right, because the cloud moves relatively fast and is small to boot. From the cloud, jump up to level 3. Watch the nitpicker here and jump onto the small ledge for level 4 (you probably don't need to use the cloud, because it's a lot less reliable). Jump up through the gap to level 5. Make sure to watch the icicles as you go. Break your way up to level 6, and clear the rest of the stage up to the bonus stage. BONUS STAGE: Collect the pumpkins. The clouds are large and move pretty slow, so you shouldn't have a hard time getting onto them. Grab the red bird at the top to get your points. =========== Mountain 28 =========== Jump onto the level 2 cloud and make your way up to level 3. Break your way up to level 4. Jump onto the level 5 cloud and then up through the gap onto level 6. Jump onto the level 7 cloud, making sure to watch out for the icicle hanging off of it, and jump up to level 8, and then the bonus stage. BONUS STAGE: Collect the onion thingies for bonus points and use the clouds to get to the top and grab the bird. =========== Mountain 29 =========== Jump through the gap to level 2 and then onto the level 3 cloud. Watch out for the nitpicker and get to level 4. From here, be cautious of the icicles and break your way up to level 5. Watch the nitpicker again and jump through the gap to level 6. Ride the cloud up to level 8 and then the bonus stage. BONUS STAGE: Collect the brown bonus point thingies (I don't know what they are exactly. They look like basketballs). Rush up to the top and grab onto the red bird for full bonus points. =========== Mountain 30 =========== Watch the nitpicker as you jump the gap to level 2. Ride the cloud and break up to level 4. Jump through the gap to level 5. Break your way up to level 6 and ride the level 7 and 8 clouds to the bonus stage. BONUS STAGE: Collect the bonus point markers and race to the bird at the top. =========== Mountain 31 =========== The second to last stage. Jump up onto level 2 and take the level 3 cloud. Break your way up to level 4 and then jump the gap to level 5. Make doubly sure to watch out for the icicles and nitpickers. Break your way up to level 6 and then jump through the gap to level 7. Jump on the level 8 cloud and then the bonus stage. BONUS STAGE: Collect the purple eggplants and race to the bird at the top. =========== Mountain 32 =========== Final stage! Get into gear and bring it home. Use all your experience from the previous levels to give your best performance. First off, jump up through the gap to level 2. From here, jump onto the level 3 cloud. It moves a bit fast and is small, so time your jumps right. Make sure to watch out for the nitpicker. You don't want it ruining all your hard work. Jump onto the platforms for level 4, and break your way up to level 5. From there, jump onto the platforms for level 6 and then upward onto level 7. The level 8 cloud moves rather fast, so again, time your jumps correctly and make your way upward. Get onto the last bonus stage of the game. As always, watch out for the nitpickers and seals. BONUS STAGE: Collect the carrots for bonus points. Jump onto the platforms close by and make your way up. Jump onto the cloud and then onto the next cloud as you continue to make your way up. On the topmost platforms, there should only be one more cloud you'll have to ride, so ride it and get to the top. Grab the last bird and get the max amount of bonus points.
