How to join the |
Usually membership in the EMS is organised by the 52 European mathematical
societies, who are members of EMS. Normally joining
EMS as an individual member through an EMS member society is simple: one
just pays the extra amount (22 euro) for EMS membership when paying the
regular membership fee. This is the easiest way and in most cases the most
economical one, too.
Please address an informal application to your national society.
In the case of countries where the national mathematical society is not a member of the EMS or where there are economical reasons which make the payment of the membership fee through the national society difficult, Zentralblatt may care about this payment from the reviewer's account as far as money is available there. The rates for the fee under these special conditions for reviewers of Zentralblatt are:
It is also possible to join EMS as an individual member directly, applying
through the Secretariat of EMS. In this case the membership fee is
88 euro due to the additional costs to EMS.
Reciprocity memberships are available for members of the American
Mathematical Society, Australian Mathematical Society, and Canadian
Mathematical Society at the reduced fee of 44 euro.
Please address an informal application to the EMS Secretariat or print out and fill in the application form and mail it to:
Corporate bodies with legal status may join the Society in one of the following categories:
(a) Full members,
(b) Associate members,
(c) Institutional members.
Full membership is restricted to societies, or similar bodies, primarily devoted to promoting research in pure or applied mathematics within Europe. Associate membership is open to all societies in Europe having a significant interest in any aspect of mathematics. Institutional membership is open to commercial organizations, industrial laboratories or academic institutes.
Full corporate members are elected by the Council and other corporate and individual members by the Executive Committee. Reciprocity agreements are approved by the Council. A reciprocity agreement is an agreement between EMS and another society concerning benefits to joint members.
Corporate bodies wishing to become members of the EMS should provide appropriate evidence of their nature and activities.
The annual dues for corporate members (Art. 3.2 and 5.4) will be expressed in terms of a unit fee x, fixed by the Council for any one year.
Full members in classes 1, 2, 3 shall pay x, 3x and 5x respectively in annual dues.
Associate members shall pay an annual fee of x.
Academic institutional members shall pay an annual fee of x. Other institutional members shall pay an annual fee of 3x.
From 1 January 2007, the value of x is 400 euro. The full regulations concerning membership, including individual membership and reciprocity agreements, can be found at http://www.emis.de/statutes.html.
