Hey Gophers,

It's hard to find a thing to write about when you are just working and just try-
ing to make deadlines all day..... And then the Holidays come, and you finally
have some time for yourself and your family. It's good to have to have some time
to look back on the year and also look forward. 2020 was not my favorite year
ever, but it was also not that bad. Actually staying home more than normal has
brought me some new things like starting my venture into Gopherspace and also
(something that I would not have imagined) learning a new programming language.
A few phlogs ago, I asked you guys why Pascal/Delphi/Lazarus was not very much
loved anymore, and I still think that writing programs in this RAD methodology
has a lot going for it, but I took up the challenge of learning Rust.

Now, that has been a pleasant experience until now. A lot of the good things
that I so much like about Pascal (like strong typing and readable code) are also
present in Rust, and there are some clever new things in Rust (like how func-
tions return results for instance) that I really like. Compared to my knowledge
in Pascal I am again finding myself to be taking baby steps, and making lots
of mistakes along the way, but the official tutorial that I am following is
simply excellent. It takes you step by step from concept to concept. Very good.

So maybe I will slowly become a Rust adept. Whaddayaknow? We will see what
2021 will bring us. I have definitely revived my love for programming... May-
be if I get bored or fed up being a group manager, I could take a step back into
a more technical job and become a programmer. We will see what the future brings
but I am at least quite positive about it. With the vaccines coming the future
is looking a bit less bleak than it did about half a year ago... Anyway thank
you for reading my ramblings!

Have a nice year end and a fabulous beginning of 2021

Cheers,

Fripster
