Subj : Dog rescue in Wellington after rabbit chase goes wrong To : All From : Major Queen Date : Tue Feb 25 2020 02:04 pm Luna had plenty of time to ponder her life choices from her cliff-face perch. Like, should she have chased that rabbit? Because that is how, on Tuesday morning, the Golden Retriever found herself stuck about 150 metres up a cliff at the former quarry at Wellington's Owhiro Bay. It was about 7.30am when Luna, being taken for a walk around the South Coast bay, spotted a rabbit and went for it, Brooklyn station officer Trevor Tofts said. Up and up the shear and rocky face she went. Till she realised there was no way down. When fire crews arrived a distressed Luna could be heard whining and crying from the cliff face. A rescue effort that would last most of the morning began in that moment. The Brooklyn crew made their way to the top of the cliffs but didn't have the the right equipment to lower themselves down over the crumbling terrain. A specialist crew from Newtown were soon on the scene and a crew member was lowered to Luna. But then came the tricky part - getting a panicky dog down from a perilous perch. Using firefighters' radios from below, the family made soothing sounds as Luna was strapped into a harness and got lowered to a grateful family below. The fate of the rabbit remains unclear. --- Mystic BBS v1.12 A44 2020/02/04 (Windows/64) * Origin: S.W.A.T.S.BBS telnet swatsbbs.ddns.net 23 (63:10/102)
