around? He told me that my job starts today.
[The light for "live on air" goes out, and Ben walks out from the
studio room.]
Ben Goldstein: Another day at the GNA! Oh, Lily, you're here! Welcome
to the Galactic News Agency and our spacious facilities. So, I figured
I'll get you started on an easy-promotion job: managing the scene
switch computer to control what camera is actively displayed on TV.
Lily Morrison: Okay. What else?
[They walk over to the computer, and he points out some controls.]
Ben Goldstein: This is only during the news segments, which shouldn't
take too long. Maybe 30 minutes every few hours, but it would likely
be next shift by the time the next news segments start. If you work
over, we don't penalize overtime pay. Sometimes rare tragedies require
us to stay working with nutrient/caffeine IVs for over 36 hours
straight. Only happened once though... before I started working here,
thankfully.
Lily Morrison: When's the next news segment?
Ben Goldstein: In about fifty minutes. I was going to get the team

As a reminder, the Bicycle runs on a 24-hour cycle for the
remainder of this navigational calendar.
Breakfast
As usual, breakfast is offered from Hour 6 to Hour 8. The
hot option is burbur with a variety of savory toppings. The
cold options include our ship's rotating stock of cereals and
fruits. The last time I wrote this e-mail, I mistakenly
assumed that coffee was implied. So to those who kindly
wrote back inquiring after it: Yes, there will be coffee.
Lunch
Lunch is offered from Hour 11 to Hour 14. There is a small variety of
leafy greens available with oil and vinegar for dressing if desired.
There are breads of limited variety, and legume pastes, and preserved meats.
There will still be coffee available at lunch.
Dinner
Dinner is offered from Hour 5 to Hour 8. Dinners this week alternate between:
1) A hot grain with options of hot vegetable protein or hot meat protein

Na Terra, em НЖТИ, as transmissões aconteciam numa cadência calculada e
alienante, com pedaços de código morse que se decifravam mecanicamente,
mas cuja importância sempre parecia escorrer por entre os meus dedos, como
água turva. Havia algo de quase sedutor na minha missão, e que consistia
em esperar pela próxima transmissão, sem saber se ela me traria mais
consolo ou só mais um pouco de medo.
Aqui, em Lagrange, olho para linha do horizonte, mas não há amanhecer.

trazer vantagens. Uma delas é poder ater-me à leitura do
pequeno conjunto de livros que trouxe comigo para Lagrange.
Leio-os vários vezes como se fosse a primeira vez. Alias,
tomei a decisão de, sempre que volto ao início da leitura,
renumerar manualmente as páginas, com um lápis, seguindo a
lógica de paginação da última página. Isto é, se o livro
termina na página 423, quando o volto a ler, a página 1 é
renumerada como 424, e assim sucessivamente. Desta forma,
mentalmente, nunca dou o livro como terminado.
