Friday 20 September 2024 New phlogpost from my Palm TX ============================= No internet ----------- After a whole day having several phone calls with our internet provider, what better thing to do than to write another phlog on the Palm? Certainly now that I can hot sync to my old Power Mac G4. So, this is a kind of unintended ROOPHLOG post, exept that it is written inside, while sittinc on my easy chair. Palm III -------- I purchased AAA batteries and now the Palm III is also up and running again. Writing on it, I think is a lot harder. The display lacks a backlight, the original Grafiti is harder to write and the modern -wide- input area is easier to use. Beaming ------- With two Palm devices available, I tried to beam over a memo over Infra Red. On the Palm III I had seen a setting to turn the infra red reception on or off, so the easest way is sending from the TX and receiving on the III. This went very smooth and much quicker than expected. Technology can be so much fun! Missing element --------------- The only missing element at the moment is the cradle for the III. It too is probably somewhere on the attic but a quick search didn't result in success. I prefer the TX with the much better screen and Grafiti input so probably a.single sync test would be my only use, but still is something to look forward to. New category ------------ Optimistic about future use of the TX for phlogs, I added a new category 'Gopher' ;) Again a big thank you to Solderpunk for calling out the challenge. Without it I would never have been writing this on the TX. Now I am going to hotsync this memo to the G4. After that I have to see how to get it online without SSH -and hope we will have internet back soon. ---===--- I wrote this yesterday evening on my Palm TX and just used hot-sync with the Palm software on my G4. The memo in the Palm got synchronised but I haven't discovered how to copy it from the Palm Desktop application to a separate file. In the end I used copy-and-paste to paste it into Emacs on the G4 and saved it from Emacs. The G4 could open my local webdav server, but OS X gives an error when I try to copy files to it ("file in use"). I uploaded he file to my snippet-server/file-dropper, downloaded it on my X201 and imported it in a denote file. From there, the normal phlog publish procedure was used.
