Seems I'm a little late to the party, but this happened again last night
so here goes Often when I'm falling asleep, I like to let my mind wander
as it is sort of fun to take note of the random crap and non-sequitors
that pop up as I'm drifting off. Most of the time the stuff that comes
up makes no sense, but sometimes as I'm on the edge of actually sleeping
I start to dream while I am sort of still awake and I will actually hear
stuff. Again, most of the time it is nothing, but every so often I will
hear/have a conversation or think I hear a song. Rarely though, the
things I hear will scare the crap out of me. For example, when I was a
kid, I woke up freaking out that bats were screeching above my head, and
a few months ago I thought somebody was screaming in my face despite my
room being empty. This brings me to last night.

I am currently in the middle of moving out of my apartment. All my
furniture is gone and except for some random crap that needs to go into
boxes, my place is pretty empty. Because my bedroom has no light
fixtures, I have been sleeping on an air mattress in my kitchen/living
room. I was falling asleep and listening to my rambling subconscious as
I drifted off. What I heard this time was a tense conversation, one of
the voices I thought sounded deep and gruff, and it felt like it was
getting louder. I don't remember what it was about, but I remember
feeling really uncomfortable right up until the deep voice snapped "Well
just cut him up!" Right then I head what sounded like something falling
over nearby, causing me to jerk awake absolutely certain that someone
was in my apartment. Of course there was nobody there, the door was
locked, and I'm pretty sure I imagined the sound of something falling
over too, but I was freaked right the fuck out for the rest of the
night. Still though, I find it really unsettling that the cause of that
fear was my own mind just wandering around.
