A FREE FEED

Yes I'm going to give you all a free feed. "Lunch?", you ask. No,
better! A feed of my own free thoughts! "Oh... meh".

What I'm saying is, oh wait...
</description> <<>>>><<&amp; &lt; &gt;
If all that, & that, make it through without stuffing things up,
then I'm saying that I've now got an RSS feed for this fabulous
phlog. Actually, you already saw the links on the gophermap anyway
I suppose.

As such my simplemkphlog.sh script is now just a little bit less
simple, such is the way of programming, but actually I don't think
this bulked it up too much. It's over in the scripts section as
usual, so you can judge for yourself.

RSS seems like a really good solution for content like this, but as
it happens I've never really been a big user of it. I never
followed blogs regularly to the point where I was concerned about
missing things. I do follow phlogs like that now, but most don't
have RSS, so Bongusta and the like are my main resource for them.
RSS is obviously a better way to do it, but I don't really mind the
current method of polling gophermaps.

Still it seemed like a good addition for the convenience of those
readers who are in the RSS habit. Plus RSS is effectively a gateway
to all sorts of other endpoints, such as email via rss2email (which
I do run myself to check a small few software-release and
service-notification feeds), and NNTP via Gwene (http://gwene.org).
Mozilla pulled RSS support out of Firefox though, which is a shame.

I haven't done a great deal of testing, so if it isn't working in
your feed reader, let me know. Unfortunately Aussies.space doesn't
allow HTTP connections, so old feed readers that don't work well
with HTTPS anymore might have troubles, and I can't do much about
that.
